Funny how we'll actually have a "3 out of 4" going if we win this one while it feels like we haven't won 3 games in a 10 game span since July

anyways, maybe we'll gain ground on the Cards tomorrow

yeah, who am i kidding

Good day for the team....Atlanta and Col lose. Cards beat Astro's but I think that's a good thing. 2 days ago they were creeping up from behind...that's the LAST thing we need!

Now the teams to watch are Col and Fla. Just keep winning the games we should and in a week things will get interesting.

Not that it matters anymore but, why did Lou move Fukudome from the lead off spot? Seemed like a 1-2 of Fukudome and Bradley was working well, they're both OBP machines. Having Lee and Ramirez often come up with runners on base is good thing no?

I have to think it was an effort to spread out the LH bats of Fukudome and Bradley when facing a righty.

Theriot's August: .326/.348/.372, has not been terrible by any stretch, but it's nothing special and no reason to get him the most PA.

Lou both wants enough power hitters in the middle spots and balance in the lineup. Fukudome at 5 accomplished both those things better than him at the number 1 spot. The Cubs actually only used that combination of Fukudome/Bradley twice (and of course with Lou's quick hook, it didn't help the case that the team scored a combined 3 runs in those 2 games).

I have never agreed with him on this, but to Lou the integrity of the middle of the lineup is more important than the top or the bottom. The top and the bottom are then arranged as best as possible with the pieces that are left.

I think it would still be a close decision either way if Soriano or Soto were hitting better. With them both struggling, it helps neutralize one of Kosuke's best assets (his walks) and makes him much more suited for leadoff on this particular team.

36 pitches, 17 strikes is probably not a good first inning.

I really felt he was getting squeezed a bit. Which makes me wonder why our leadoff hitter would then swing at the first two pitches?
