Hmmm, what part of Sandy Alderson being my 1st choise did you guys miss? And Coletti is a far better choice than he's getting credit for.

Anyway, I like how you know it alls can pick apart a choice but have none of your own. Classic.

Ned freaking Colletti? Really? I'm still trying to figure out if you are being serious.

there have been multiple threads where this has been discussed.

Yes, and in none of those has Ned Colletti been suggested. It was just kind of remarkable, that's all.

I am fairly certain that Lou will retire after all of this. Assuming he does, I'd fire Hendry and:

- Hire DePodesta (2 yr contract with a team option for a 3rd); and

- Let him hire his guy to manage. No idea who that might be.

I have to wonder how much DePodesta benefited from having Logan White around. I'm not doubting DePo's baseball acumen, but White has proven himself to be quite astute when it comes to scouting and developing a farm system.

I don't think Bobby Valentine will be coming back to the States anytime soon. He's like a God in Japan.

Last I heard the team wasn't going to bring him back and the fans and players were doing all they could to change that. I never heard what happened. It's been a couple months.

Japanese baseball needs Valentine. I hope he stays there.

Hes already said he plans to come back and see if he can get a big league gig. Hes burned a lot of bridges, but Id love to see what he could do here.

and he lucked into getting Ramirez for .30 on the dollar

andy laroche was a really good prospect

The best right handed hitter of his generation playing motivated was traded for one really good prospect and one average prospect. I'd say they got him cheaper than his true value.

ARod + Albert say hello.

If Lou really has had enough and doesn't plan to return I'd rather he retire now. Then the Cubs could name Trammell as interim manager for the rest of this year and he'd have a month and a half to show his managerial style. Hendry (or, preferably, a new GM) would then decide in the off-season whether to retain Trammell or hire a new manager.

Levine's blog is a little misleading I think. He makes it appear that the Ricketts are wanting to add a jumbrotron, but I honestly think he's just speculating that they could.

The most spectacular addition to the park could be a JumboTron mounted somewhere in the outfield or on an existing rooftop building. The 'Tron itself could generate $25 million to $30 million per year in advertising revenue if the cubs can convince the city and Alderman Tom Tunney that the new electronic scoreboard wouldn't be a noise and light nuisance for the neighborhood itself.

Oh God I hope not.

Wrigley does not need a jumbotron. Call me old fashioned.

Agreed. Wrigley is what it is because of the history. A massive screen makes it hard to feel the nostalgic of a place.

why do we need to care what the neighborhood thinks at all? the neighborhood is nothing without wrigley.

There's a neighborhood protection plan that the Cubs and the City of Chicago agreed to that has stipulations for amount of night games and noise ordinances. If you've ever noticed, the organist who plays music can't play past a certain time at night. I'm guessing the jumbotron noise would fall into this category.

What history? I get tired of Cubs fans saying don't change anything because of the 'history.'

Now the nostalgia aspect, that's a valid point and I understand that argument why you wouldn't want to change anything. I just don't agree with it.

A jumbotron? Thats the teams problem?
Agreed. I think more than a century without a championship is slightly more of an important issue than whether there's a jumbotron.

You mean we can sign such player as Juan Pierre, Jason Schmidt, Andruw Jones, and Rafael Furcal to big contracts too? ALRIGHT!

Alfonso Soriano and Todd Hundley say hello.

Hundley wasn't a Hendry signing - he was, I believe, a MacPhail signing. Either MacPhail or Ed Lynch.

Jumbotrons mounted on rooftops? Not a bad idea, frankly.

I've been behind this idea for quite some time. I don't understand what's wrong with that.

I'm not a big fan of anything that takes away from the attention on the field. That said, if the $30 million means having two more all-star caliber players each year, then I may have to trade in some nostalgia points for that.
