Perhaps Blanco or Baker will conveniently become "injured" and get placed on the DL, to be acivated when rosters expand in September. That would avoid the need to send anybody down.

That seems to be "the move" around the league these days. Hell, the Cubs have already done it this year with David Patton. Anyone remember him?

Aaron Miles after 21 games (87 ABs) with the I-Cubs:

.253/.267/.299/.566 with 4 2Bs, 0 3Bs, 0 HRs, and 5 errors

GRIT!

Aaron Miles was on a rehab assignment. Numbers are not his primary focus for what he was trying to do down there. You gotta get your strength back. You have to get your timing back.

What was his primary focus when he was on the big league roster earlier this year?

LOL, ok I see what you mean. Who knows, maybe his time down in the minors helped his confidence and helped him work things out in a low pressure environment? I hope he comes up and hits .300 like he did last year.

....problem is that even if he miraculously 'hits .300', he's still only going to get on base at a rate of .330 and slug at a rate of .375 or so and none of that is acceptable....and THATS IF HE BATS .300! Not only is he useless, but he is a severe liability.....own up to the fact that signing him was a folly, DFA him, and be done with it.

So where do we get backup middle infielders that can OPS .800 and provide adequate defense?

The Cubs have placed infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain.

So, Gorzelanny up, Blanco to the DL.

That leaves Miles and Soto to come up.

Would these be the next moves then?

Soto up, Shark to Iowa

Miles up, Fuld/Hoff to Iowa at some point?

Remember, you heard it here first. :D

That's beyond frustrating. No way Miles deserves a roster spot over Hoff or Fuld. Are the cubs even willing to spend 3 weeks or so without a CF backup?

Miles does have the skill to put up a decent average, just look at last year. I'm fine with a light hitting .300 hitter in the 8 hole.

From someone other than Miles, who has never OPSed .800 in a season and, as far as I can tell, has never provided adequate defense.

I have serious doubts that Aaron Miles can hit .300 with this team, to boot.

And conveniently, he strained his groin on a rehab outing in AA. Who knows if this is real or not!

Can a major league team be accused of "abusing" the DL list?

I don't know for sure, but I think that the team would only get in trouble if the player wasn't really hurt and didn't want to be placed on the DL (and made a stink about it). But I'm not sure. I know MLB doesn't want teams abusing it, but who polices it?

Geo kicked him in the groin while he was down there on top-secret orders from Lou.

Miles, in only 131 plate appearances, has been 8.2 runs below replacement level - making him the 872nd best run producing position player in the majors this year.
