NFL Draft moves to prime time

No discussion about the NFL draft moving to prime time?

 

The draft gets rolling with the first round on Thursday night, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

 

Rounds two and three will be held on Friday night, April 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

 

And then they'll wrap it all up beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 24.

I never thought about posting that when I read it the other day. I don't really like it, but oh well.

I don't mind some primetime at the beginning. But I really don't like spreading it out over three days and how they spread it out.

I can't watch the draft. Not enough into college football and don't know enough of the players. Perhaps if the Bears had one of the top picks I would be interested.

 

But I think this is a good move. Would probably get more than the hardcore folks to watch.

This stinks and I hope it only lasts one year. Draft day was always full of grilling, drinking and watching the draft in a group.

 

The morning start with rounds 1-3 was the best, especially if they had stayed with that and 10 minutes between picks in the first. The later start was alright because we were able to get a round of golf in before it started.

Exactly. I personally like the all-day Saturday setup. But I could deal with Friday night round 1. The all day coverage on Saturday made for a really nice excuse to fire up the grill for the first time of the year and get together with your boys and eat and drink all day. But you have to have some semi-important picks to keep it interesting.

Never said it was. But there is money to be made from the UFC and ESPN should go get it. The NFL will sell regardless of a three-day draft that includes primetime.

Snayke is saying that instead of messing with old boringness of something that already works (the NFL Draft), that ESPN should be exploring the new hotness that is the UFC. Or something.

I mentioned UFC because there's been rumblings that ESPN and UFC are working on an agreement, so it's not like I pulled that out of thin air. But I'm not sure how they'll ever come to an agreement when ESPN is only interested in programs that involve football. Or baseball games that put Steve Phillips in a dugout.

Yeah, ESPN never airs any other sports, and it's impossible to figure out how to air more than one television program in the same month.
