That's about all he's worth when you consider the 8 mil option next season. I don't know if I'd even take him for free.

And in fact I've read speculation that Sanchez would pass through waivers, meaning the other 29 teams wouldn't take him for free, either.

(Now whether that speculation is actually correct is another matter.)

I could see a Canseco/Randy Myers situtation happening if that were the case.

You know, if the Cubs are looking for a middle infielder, it might be worth seeing what the Jays want for Scutaro. I know he's not left-handed or anything, but he's having a very good season and could play short, moving Theriot to second base. He's also capable of playing second or third, in case anyone gets hurt. Plus, he's a free agent after the season, so the Cubs wouldn't be on the hook for anything next season.

I've thought of that option too and I'd be interested in doing that.

In regards to Scutaro:

Baker/Fontenot Combo:

.210 BA

73 hits

9 HR

39 RBI

Scutaro:

.294 BA

118 hits

8 HR

46 RBI

If he can play second base fairly decently, this may very well be something to look into. Or, we could just stick with the platoon. I'm not sure if we are even talking to the Jays about him, but who knows.

What i wouldn't give for FREDDIE SANCHEZ!

Lots of rumors out of SF that he's close to being a Giant.

>>Freddy Sanchez had his injured left knee examined by Giants' doctors on Wednesday.

There were no significant issues found, but it remains to be seen if the Giants and Pirates will work out a deal for the infielder. The latest indicator that a trade could be coming soon is that Sanchez has received permission to spend Thursday's off day at his home in Phoenix, so that if he gets traded to a West Coast team he'll already be in the vicinity. <<

For a team that could use an offensive boost and doesn't have much money available, Scutaro is worth a look. Shouldn't take much to acquire him.

Why would Scutaro come cheap? He's got an .824 OPS and is playing a good defensive SS.

Isnt he a free agent? That will lower the demand Id think, but I dont think Toronto would give him away. Id be interested in giving them 1 of our pitchers in the minors and say Fox for him though.

Scutaro only makes 1.1 mil for the eason, meaning he only has about 500K left, so hed be a great target. I know the Twins have shown interest in him, as did the Giants before they guy Sanchez. Scuraro is a guy who we could probably get for Fox+a prospect/PTBNL. If Lou really wants a loogy, they could broaden the deal for Scott Downs, although Im all for trying Ryan or Gaub.

I've heard Scutaro is going to be a type A which might make him a bit expensive. I'm not so sure he's worth what it take for a couple months of his services.

I dont see how a guy who in his last 3 years has an OPS of 711 could be anywhere near a type A, even with the year hes having.

I have no idea if it's reliable or not, but I got that info from this link.

It's only based on the last 2 years. And remember that the Elias rankings are all based on counting stats. I don't know where he'll end up on the rankings though.

According to the rules, a player must be in the Top 20% range of FA (unless that's change) to be award Type A. My guess is Scutaro will be classified as a Type B FA at best.

He's likely going to be Type A, pretty easily.
