If the Jays are demanding a top young pitcher plus 2 top pitching prospects, they aint moving the Doc.

This is simply negotiation ploy. The Jays have to ask for the moon as their opening offer. I'm thinking Donald/Drabek/Carraso and/or 4th prospect should be enough to get a deal done.

Right now the clock is on their side. No reason to see if there is at least one GM dumb and willing enough to part with a comparable package before adjusting your asking price. They really have no incentive to trade him now as opposed to Thursday or Friday.

Just out of curiousity. Is this Kyle Drabek the son of ex-Pirate/Astro Doug Drabek?

yes.

yes.

I kinda wondered, since I know of a Drabek was Doug in the 90's.

looks like the Yankees and Red Sox are now in on Halladay as well

blue jays will demand a king's ransom to trade him within the division.

which is why nothing has happened. They want Joba AND Hughes from the Yankees, or Bucholz, Lowrie, and some top prospects from the BoSox

I was wondering if anyone else felt this way, but doesn't anyone else feel the red sox and Yankee prospects are overhyped by the Media, such as ESPN? I mean they mention these prospects all the time and none of them has really panned out to anything except for maybe Joba and Joba really isn't that impressive to me. I just feel it sucks that the prospects for both these teams get overhyped to the point where people start to think these prospects are up there as far as farm systems. I mean wasn't Melky Cabrera regarded as a top prospect and to this day still mentioned as a center piece in trades when the dude has been "ok" but not as great as some people made him out to be. I mean man, i know more about the Yankee and Red Sox prospects than i do about the cubs.

You hear more about them, and that may make them overrated a tad, but how Joba hasn't impressed you is beyond me. He's been very good in his time in the majors and should get better. Hughes, Buholtz, etc... also legitimately very good prospects that would get hype no matter which system they came from.

6:22pm: So just how much do the Blue Jays want for Halladay? Marlins president David Samson told 790 The Ticket that J.P. Ricciardi wants "two left legs, a right arm and a left cerebellum" for Doc, according to the Miami Herald.

Haha

Good for JP. There's no mandate to trade him, so why not ask for the moon and stars for him.....someone might just give them to you

At the end of the day JP can get screwed though. His value is that he's signed for next year, but if JP doesn't get a deal done then he'll obviously get less next year.

Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi said Friday that he expects Roy Halladay to stay in Toronto, at least through the 2009 season.

Ricciardi was disappointed by most of the offers presented to him. "I think it has taken a long time for people to figure out how serious we have been (about the high asking price)," he said. "If you put your house up for sale and it is a $1 million house, you are not accepting $800,000. I have the best pitcher in baseball, I should be overwhelmed."

Jon Heyman (MLBN) seems to think there are no legs to a Halladay to Anaheim deal
Unless the trade was actually agreed to by the deadline and simply awaiting approval from the commissioner it ain't happening. Halladay would not clear waivers.
