I bet the Cubs feel like they will never be able to play him consistently in the majors, and have resigned themselves to trading him and think that his numbers in his brief MLB appearance will help his trade value and want to send him down before he hits a slump and his numbers take a hit.

The Cubs just lost a pretty good bat off the bench and gained...........Aaron Miles....

I don't care what people say...Aaron Miles has the worse contract on the Cubs. Bar none. He is undeserving of the contract, and I hope to hell and back they released his arse this offseason (better yet sometime this season).

Incredibly stupid. Miles coming back basically removes any need for Bobby Scales, if you're bringing this worthless midget back at all. Fox meanwhile still has a place as a reserve corner IF/OF.

But wait, Andy they are going to compound the problem by trading Jake Fox to some random AL team for one of two fringe prospects, and after a month or so, both "prospects" will be no longer in the org, while Fox becomes a productive major leaguer.

Cubs better not face any LHPs in interleague play on the road. Fox could have at least DH'd. It really makes no sense to have Scales here. Fontenot is going to be in there every day at 3B. After last night's hitting performance and his great defense, Blanco should be at 2B vs. all RHPs. You know Miles will get the RH ABs. Scales has no place on this team right now.

Don't we need to send someone else down when Harden comes back?

I can't see it being Jason Waddel, then again Marshall is in the pen now...

If only Fox had gotten a walkoff hit in that Dodgers game maybe he would have been able to stay.

yeah, this is what i don't get. with interleague coming up, Fox was the obvious choice to stay and at least DH against LHP next week. Scales is worthless at this point, but my guess is they chose to keep him because he can play 3B (while they believe Fox can't).

eta: wait, Miles can play 3B too. i shouldn't post before I drink my coffee.

Waddel will be sent down, but just to keep it interesting, they'll also send down Hoff and bring up So Taguchi.

In all honesty, I think that interleague is the main reason Fox is going down. Right now, he wont get many at bats with the big league club. They'll want him ready for interleague, so they're sending him down to get more playing time in Iowa. Hopefully, they'll also give him some time at 3B, and he can knock around AAA pitching some more so hes nice and hot when it comes time to go.

I think this move is the whole don't want get to stuck with 1 backup middle infielder with the only option in the minors not being able to come back up for 8-10 days. If somebody had a day to day injury in the next few days, the Cubs would be in trouble.

It still isn't a good move to me even with that reason. But it doesn't preclude Fox from coming back up for interleague play either. He will be eligible to come back up before he would get any chances to DH so they can always revisit this situation then.

well that's just silly

Mike Weurtz begs to differ.

Wuertz had 4.5 years of big league experience to make such a judgment that he was a decent reliever. Jake Fox has 6 weeks of AAA performance and 12 AB's with the MLB team.

Luis Rivas is off the DL, so theres your other middle infielder. I really think the move is just to get Fox more ABs before interleague.

River City Ransom. What a great game that was. I remeber when playing 2 player, you could use you're partner as a weapon.

They wouldn't really be stuck with 1 backup MI. They would always have the option of throwing Fox at third for a game and moving Fontenot back over to 2nd.

The biggest problem on this team, by far, has been the lack of hitting. Fox is hitting, there's really no excuse for this move.

Yeah, that's something I didn't look at close enough. They don't play a road interleague game until June 23, so Fox could be recalled for that if it looks like they'll be facing some LHP.
