I remember nothing from the Last Boyscout other than who's in it. It's like it's been erased from my mind.

I've seen it twice and the only part I ever remember is the football game shooting sequence.

Look, Z acted like an ass - but this is the second time in a week or two that I have seen an umpire contact a player.

Players get HEAVY penalties for coming in contact with umps, and I think the line has to be drawn now. Not that the players are going to get hurt - but there is no justice in players getting increased penalties for the bill of their hat contacting an umpire when the ump can basically do the same or worse with no consequence.

I don't think that Z should be the example in this situation.

Sure, he deserves to miss a start, but I'm sorry - the ump contacted the player FIRST in this situation, which may or may not have caused his flippant reaction. I think it was animated and over the top, yet entertaining. Why was he tossed? For the contact or the questioning of the call. I think it is important to distinguish, because if Zambrano was tossed for the contact than I think it should be thrown out and he shouldn't be suspended at all.

To me it looked like the ump initiated the contact, but after he did Zambrano pushed him away with his arm. For that and not leaving the field right away and throwing the ball and glove I think Zambrano deserves to miss at least one start.

Suspend Z for five games, suspend the ump for 3 games.

C'mon Watson, show you have a pair.

I wish he would, but I doubt it. The umps hold the trump card. You get too close, they can snare ya. Boom -- 5 games, doesn't matter what actually happened.

It's more than five. Hell, they gave Bradley two for a cap-bump, then started handing out two for tossing equipment around. Lou got four once for arguing, and I've never seen that before. And didn't Lee get like seven essentially for missing Chris Young with a punch? I always err on the side of more games when Cubs' suspension issues come up because that's usually what happens.

Looking at the schedule, Zambrano should go ahead and start it tonight. With the off day Monday, Wells and and Lilly could have starts on normal rest Tuesday and Wednesday with Zambrano slotted back in on Thursday.

Or maybe he'll folllow his boy MB's lead and stand on his principles.

Zambrano's words reminds me he probably never should have started that inning. Coming back from injury, facing the lineup for the 4th time that day, with about 110 pitches thrown, that was the time to pull him.

6 games sounds about right to me. Although Z is not appealing it, I'd like to see the Cubs ask MLB to look into the actions of the umpire. Purposely bumping a player then ejecting him for it is not something I'd want my Umps doing.

Some awesome quotes in here...

Zambrano, ball still in hand, pointed a finger at the umpire and said what looked like "YOU have to be thrown out! YOU!" and then mocked the ump with a "You're outta here!" mime. This put a smile on the face of Piniella, who knows a thing or two about the art of getting thrown out of a ballgame. "I'm the only calm, cool, collected one around here it seems," Piniella said. "Just kidding."

Zambrano kept arguing, even after Piniella and coach Larry Rothschild separated him from Carlson. Z was about 15 feet from home plate when he heaved the ball toward the left-field bleachers, only making it to the warning track. "I was kind of disappointed," Chicago's Reed Johnson(notes) said. "I thought it was going to go up into the stands, but the wind was blowing in today."

Don't worry, though. The G dispenser still worked, as trainer Ed Halbur proved afterward. "They should be paying us for all the publicity we've given them," Dempster said. "Everyone will want one now."

Honestly, the contact was about as minor as it really gets. I don't think anyone purposely bumped anyone. It was more like a brush than a bump.

brush, bump whatever, it looked like he made contact with Z on purpose and that simply cannot be done

Zambrano has to be beside himself in relief that he got such a pathetic suspension, I cannot imagine there is any reason to appeal it. I'm not going to pass judgement here as to what he should have received for a suspension but a 6 game suspension for a pitcher is about the smallest smack on the wrist you can get. Basically the league is saying he did nothing wrong with that weak sentence.

You've made a very stupid post here for your debut fella.

6 games is fairly standard for pitchers, it forces them to miss time. The league may have gone further, if the ump hadn't contributed to the problem. But it was a perfectly acceptable outcome.

Again, very stupid post, put some thought into it next time.
