Waddell for his career seems to give up harder hit balls to left handed hitters for a slightly higher BAA, but with more K's, fewer walks, and far fewer HR. It's a weird combination.

I've always kinda liked Blanco. For as long as he's been around he's only 25(nearly 2 years younger than Fox, for example), maybe he can make something happen while he's up here and keep Freel away from right handed pitching.

Lou just said they may give Fox a look at third base.

I hope that means he'll just be allowed to look at it from the batter's box.

Or whenever he is rounding third base.

I would not be against releasing Freel and bringing Scales back up after 10 days.

I don't know what Miles' injury is but I'm sure it will require a rehab assignment somewhere.

Funny that Blanco could have been on the team out of ST for the minimum and likely been just as productive as Miles. By funny I mean tragic.

Here's an analysis of just how bad Fox would have to be defensively at 3rd to be worth his projected bat. The conclusion? He'd have to be the worst defensive 3B in the league to be worth it, and it's not too likely he's even that good. Link

Well, thanks for taking a dump on our cheerios, TT.

Why?

.255/.316/.319 career minor league mark.

I'm not saying I wanted him as the SS of the future, but he's been a guy who got to AAA/MLB at a very young age, and considering he plays good defense, I liked that they picked him up as he might figure something out at the plate.

and Waddell.

We got Turk back? Awesome!

How old is he now?

It's Turk Wendell. There was a Hall of Fame pitcher named Rube Waddell who pitched in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

So basically what you're telling me is that I'm really horrible at being sarcastic?

It doesn't sound like Scales will be up anytime soon. He just got caught in the roster crunch and they decided they'd rather have the extra bat in Fox than Scales.

So why didnt they just bring up Fox for Miles and leave the rest be? Blancos defense isnt anything to write home about.

Blanco can play SS. Scales can't. Neither can Freel, and Fontenot only barely can (and the Cubs probably don't want him thinking about another new position right now).

From the way Len described it, that's exactly what it was. The Cubs needed a backup SS with Miles gone so Blanco had to be the choice.

Wow. Flash in the pan or not, it's tough to see a 31-year-old middle infielder finally get called up to the majors, hit 257/381/457 and still get sent back down.

Real nice to see Indiana-boy Fox up though.

Is Miles really hurt? Sounds more like one of those very convenient, pseudo-injuries to me.

I don't even care. As long as he's gone, I'm happy.

I'm going to say legitimate injury. It's not like the Cubs were anxious to bring Blanco up for any reason. But Miles probably could have played through that injury longer if he needed to or was hot at the plate.

Scales might have a chance to quickly come back up depending on what happens with Freel.

Now Freel may have a legit injury. Good by 3 headed monster, hello trade. Probably not, but it would be nice.

That would be terrific.

And I'm definitely pulling for Fox to be a good bat off the bench.

I get the feeling that in a weeks time, Blanco hate will eclipse that of Jacque Jones, Macias, Neifi, Kendall, Hawkins, Miles, Freel, Gathright, C Patt, and Cotts combined. I guess it means that Freel gets the starting 3B job by default.

that's just stupid. he's not even going to play.

If hes our 1 backup middle infielder, he'll see some time.

ok, we'll see if he's as hated as all those guys combined after one week.

oh man, i'm already starting to hate him. i think you were right.
