To her credit, when the lighting is poor and the camera is two rooms away and she's moving around, she looked okay, but ---

Oh come the eff on. painting toes? and now the bathtub? You're killing me, Costner. there isn't enough money in the world...

He does it for the love of the game.

As great as BD is, Tim Robbins as a pitcher is one of the least convincing movie athletes ever.

David Strathairn as Eddie Ciccotte was far worse, but ya, Robbins was bad.

Also, Bull Durham is overrated in the baseball community, imo.

I still find it amazing that he actually got his fastball up to 86 MPH for that movie. That's pretty bad for a pitching prospect, but pretty good for an actor.

I watch Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Major League, Eight Men Out, and A League Of Their Own during the week before Opening Day every year (my ritual for getting ready for the season). Major League just came out in Blu-Ray within the past week or two. I don't think any of the others are in Blu-Ray yet.

Is this some sort of joke that I'm missing? Because I don't see how it is at all possible that Robbins threw a ball over 60, let alone 86mph.

There are plenty of real life pitchers who I wouldn't think could throw over 60 but yet throw in the 90's.

"I'm Crash Davis. I'm your new catcher. And you just learned Rule Number One: Don't think. You can only hurt the team."

That rule comes in real handy with my know-it-all 12-year old.

Tim Lincecum. Just by looking at him, you wouldn't think he'd be able to even get the ball to the plate.

I never believed Tim Robbins could throw either, but it was on AMC one night and they kept flashing facts from the movie on the screen. That was one of them.

His role as the goofy, garter-wearing 'Nuke' LaLoosh, the baseball innocent coached by Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon in Ron Shelton's "Bull Durham" (also 1988), allowed him to show off his pitching prowess, throwing a fastball clocked at the very respectable major-league speed of 85 miles per hour ("But I had absolutely no control").

There are plenty of incredibly over weight, no athletic ability other than a strong arm pitchers. I remember as a kid being amazed Rod Beck was somehow a big league pitcher. Alfonseca, David Wells and David Weathers all immediately jump into my mind as well.

There's a difference between having a body type that doesn't scream "elite pitcher" and actually throwing like a girl. There's no way he threw that fast. I'm sure that's just a myth that got passed down.

Tim Robbins was a TERRIBLE athlete! I was one of the players doing scenes in different uniforms playing the Bulls. Robbins never could throw a strike, and 86 mph is something he couldn't do if he threw it twice and added them together. Costner on the other hand was a very good athlete and he did most of his own catching in scenes and scrimmages we would have. He was pretty cool also. Grainy beenstalk legs was pretty cool as well.
