Tim Robbins was a TERRIBLE athlete! I was one of the players doing scenes in different uniforms playing the Bulls. Robbins never could throw a strike, and 86 mph is something he couldn't do if he threw it twice and added them together. Costner on the other hand was a very good athlete and he did most of his own catching in scenes and scrimmages we would have. He was pretty cool also. Grainy beenstalk legs was pretty cool as well.
