I really doubt Ryan's going to try to be a home run hitter now. It's the same Theriot.

I don't know about home run hitter, but he already put out there that Lou has told him to pull/drive the ball more and that he's made a conscious effort to do so.

I think Lou commented on it publicly too. If he does it just to keep pitchers honest, it shouldn't hurt.

I think it's pretty clear the opposing shortstop has been tipping pitches to Theriot with expectations that Theriot will return the favor.

But it wasn't a blow out game!

Anyway, Theriot seems to be going through an Eckstein-like power surge. Chances of Theriot hitting more than 6-7 HR's are extremely low. As long as he continues to hit line drives all over the field, I am happy. Also, keep an eye on his BB/K ratio. It's too early to sound the alarm, but he needs to walk at a high rate to be successful.

the "strength" argument is pretty weak. hes what 5-11 or so and weighs about 180 maybe? im a lanky 6-0 190 and i guarantee that if i had the eye-hand coordination of a big league ballplayer that I have plenty of strength to hit home runs. the answer lies more in his approach.

remember that he used to switch hit as well...maybe his natural swing will just take longer to develop.

Thanks Ryne... well I mean, if Fontenot can do it, why can't Theriot? His OPS is over 1.400 in May :-D

You're just not going to see Theriot's name at the top of this list very often........

With the exception of miles and probably johnson, that list looks completely backwards.

FLUKE

looks like you need to update your sig.

Done

Looking at the video clip it's pretty clear that he's not trying to hit a HR since he is hustling out of the box right after contact.

For those of you that think he's on roids, he's not. It's HGH. I expect Theriot to be 6 feet tall by next ST.

I love what he has been saying to the press about his approach. To paraphrase, it hasn't changed: get on base, go the other way with the pitch, the power will come, etc. Can you imagine him out-homering Lee?

Sometimes I can imagine my 10 year old nephew out-homering Lee...

Sounds like Theriot is crediting his recent power to the best hitting coach in the Cubs org...Von Joshua. I really am glad hes in our organization, and cant believe a big league club hasnt stolen him away yet.

Von Joshua isn't just the best hitting coach in the organization, he's the best coach in the organization. I have massive man love for him.

WTF? Two jacks tonight? What gives all the sudden? Is the wind blowing out tonight (at work, not watching the game).

5 on the season already? Wow...

Not watching but from what I heard the wind is blowing out 20 mph. Not sure which direction though.
