LaRussa really is a comedy act. He can't take a Cubs beating like a man, he's got to do some silly conspiracy theory. It's the umpires favoring the Cubs with calls, it's the Cubs stealing signs, it's the Cubs throwing inside, it's everybody else's fault but his team. :-)) I don't see Lou doing that. =D> =D>

I heard this morning on WSCR something about Larussa complaining about the Cubs gettingn all the calls or something, but I cant find it in an article anywhere. The only thing Ive seen him say is the Cubs get away with complaining about the umpires more than anybody hes seen, and this was in reference to Bradleys K, and Lou and others saying they thought it was a bad call.

On Friday, Bradley refused to talk about the incident, while Piniella backed his player, saying "it didn't look like a good pitch to me."

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa countered Piniella's take.

"I don't know how the Cubs get away with making the comments they make about umpires," he said.

But from what I read today it was really Lee's comment that TLR was referring to.

Derrek Lee said he didn't "want to say anything bad" about Vanover but added: "Wainwright wasn't throwing a lot of strikes in that situation. I think he got the benefit of the doubt when the hitter probably should've been given the benefit of the doubt."

"I like it," Lee said. "He said what he had to say and walked off. … He's intense, it was a big situation, he wanted to do well and he got upset. That's OK. He didn't do anything malicious. He was coming out of the game anyway. Now he has to pay $500 [for being thrown out]."

LaRussa is a tool and a hypocrite, although the reasons he's a tool and a hypocrite are what make him successful as well. Just makes it easier for everyone else to despise him I suppose.

Well said.

To his dying day, my brother will swear that LaRussa flipped him off at a game in Milwaukee when he was still managing the A's. My brother asked for an autograph during pregame warmups and LaRussa shot him a bird. My brother couldn't have been older than 7.

Fun story:

Last year I was walking through the concourse after the game and LaRussa was walking out towards the team bus. He had two or three Crowd Control guys by him so the crowd didn't bother him and such, which isn't necessarily unusual for any player. Anyway, one of the fans made some comment about his drunk-driving incident and LaRussa called him an SOB and he had to be held back by security so he didn't go and punch the guy.

Moderately amusing.

I hope one of these days that there's no one there to stop LaRussa and he charges somebody and gets his clock cleaned. He hated it when Dusty would fire back at him and throw at some Cardinals. He is a tool.

LaRussa's complaint about the Cubs complaint is really just his backhanded way of making his own complaint.

I have a rule. Anyone who once tried to get the umps to see if Greg Freaking Maddux was doctoring the baseball has no right to ever complain about anything in baseball, ever.

It's amusing to me how often I see Tony chirping at the umps when he sees bad calls, and constantly calls Cubs pitchers "head hunters."

Shut up and mind your own team.

The only person worse is Bobby Cox. That guy drives me nuts.

Losingest Managers List

1. Connie Mack - 3,948

2. Bucky Harris - 2,218

3. Gene Mauch - 2,037

4. Tony LaRussa - 1,986

5. John McGraw - 1,948

It's like pitchers, they judge 'em by wins, not wins and losses.

So you guys are saying that a manager that is almost 500 wins above .500 for his career is a "loser"?

That's just funny.

I believe he was actually pointing out that being the winningest manager or 3rd winningest manager is more a result of having good teams and being around for a while, as evidenced by him also being among the most losses.

I agree though, this topic is pretty stupid.

Larussa is a great manager but he's a tool and perfect for the cardinals. I hope he never leaves them, it gives the rivarly a little spice.

If he leaves (and I do believe he's a free agent after this year), they're going to struggle to replace him and I could see baby-eater jumping ship to join another team (red sox, maybe).

I could see trouble for them in recruiting a top-notch manager like .093.

It's been a weird relationship with Tony and a lot of Cardinal fans. He's not Herzog, so he'll never be a good manager in a lot of people's eyes. It's similar to Ditka here in Chicago.

I know he can come off as elitist, cocky and class A jerk. But, I look at his animal rescue foundation and other charity work, and the couple times I've been able to meet him in person, and I really believe he's a good person. It's kind of obvious that he's one of the best managers in the history of the game.

St. Louis won't really appreciate the job he's done till he's gone. I'm guessing that he and Duncan will be there for two, maybe three more years.

For what it's worth I like Lou as well. Couldn't stand Dusty, and still don't like him.

He has made comments that lead me to believe if it was up to him he will be there as long as Albert is.
