That does remind me though. Apparently the getting the guy in the air call on the perimeter is not being consistently called anymore. I've seen 3 different plays this tournament where the player ball faked, got the defender in the air, then jumped forward in taking the shot and got drilled and had no call made. I have no idea why they aren't calling it anymore.

I've seen a couple of those instances, and they seem to not be calling it if the shooter has to leap way out of his way to get to the contact. If a guy can go pretty much straight up and still get hit, then it's getting called, otherwise you're just playing for the call and they aren't going to give it to you. YMMV of course with the variety of officials and their interpretation of the rules.

Agreed, but offensive players look specifically to draw the foul all the time. Even when they're driving they'll contort the body to draw the contact. I would agree with Truffle that if the defender goes straight up that's not a foul. I think if they meet in the middle though (both players jumping towards each other) the foul should be called even if it isn't the most natural way for the shooter to jump.

Mizzou fans, that was a Pac-10 crew doing your game. Sounds about standard for them.

What Williams really should've been pissed about was when Tiller was "injured" and then went right back to the scorer's table when the timeout was called. That's a rule that needs to be changed because that was a joke, plain and simple.

I understand the guy that they substituted in was a worse FT shooter than Tiller, but that still doesn't make that right. It probably shouldn't have came down to that point in the game anyway, but I thought that was ridiculous.

I'm not too upset about it because Tiller is about the toughest player on the team, and has been banged up on fouls before and still taken the FTs. Honestly I would've been more comfortable with him taking them, and I'm pretty sure Anderson would've been too. Plus the whole English being a worse shooter and a freshman and cold off the bench, etc. Either way though Tiller likely only needed to make one considering how Marquette goofed and stepped over the line. I guess that means they could've tied it at the end, but it rings hollow to me, especially considering that if it weren't for overzealous officiating they likely would've lost by 15.

Did Raisin drive to Sacramento and steal soccer's account?

Well yeah, that's why I said it probably shouldn't have even come to that point anyway.

Anyway, congrats. The days from now until Thursday or Friday are some of the best you'll have. I just wish we could get back to the tournament, let alone making the Sweet 16 again.

I know most won't care about this, but the Ball State girls are about to beat the Lady Vols.

First time in quite a few years Tennessee's girls have missed the Sweet Sixteen. Crazy.

I was kind of bummed to see Wisconsin go down, but Xavier was the better team. Wisconsin just got out-rebounded and couldn't keep up at the end.

Yeah, I am surprised they even won a game/got into the tournament. Being a Wisconsin resident and getting to see most of their games, this had to be one of their worst/least talented teams in 10+ years. They just are an awful offensive team and marginal defensive team. They don't have 1 guy who you could go to offensively when you needed a basket that you know they could get a good look/shot and have a good chance of making something happen.

That was rude to not let Andy have this one.

God, that was fun. Jarrett and Green were on the team that went 24-7 two years ago and went to the WNIT, and I know how sweet that must've been for them. I'm still digesting that.

And dew, Tennessee had never missed the Sweet 16. :D

Not just Sweet 16 but the 2nd round all together.

Yeah, that's an amazing run for Pat. Despite the early exit, this team has got a good bit of talent and I think they'll develop all right - they're just incredibly young (the youngest Pat has ever coached, I believe).

And congrats Andy. The Ball State girls made history tonight, hopefully they'll carry on further. :)

Bloomington's own Kiley Jarrett, I might add. Good for her.

Their schedule helped a lot in terms of them getting in. I figured they were due for a 9 or 10 seed, so I was surprised to see them get a 12 seed. However, it made some amount of sense when the tournament officials explained that they did it to accommodate their rules for matchups and seedings.

A lot of their recruits haven't panned out so well, but I think there's enough talent there to help them make a run next season. Their inconsistency has been their achilles heel, but I think the coaching staff is good enough to help the younger players get past that.

Also the first time any defending champion (not just Tennessee) lost in the first round. Ball State definitely made history (not bad for their first tournament appearance ever).

So both my Duke loses early and Duke loses late brackets are tied with Obama on espn's scoring. He picked favorites so he did well in the second round and I did poorly because of Illinois.

I felt jipped by the end of that Marquette/Mizzou game. But -- it was the right call, the guy stepped on the damn line. There's a couple people at work who are going to be grumpy today.
