Roto Says

Hill was nearly untouchable a year ago. Now the Orioles could potentially land him without parting with any of their top 10 prospects. It'd be a great gamble for the club. That Hill is out of options would make it tough for a contender to take him on, but it's bizarre that more non-contenders haven't entered the mix for him. San Diego, especially, would make perfect sense.

Now if the Cubs trade Hill to the O's and get a crappy reliever prospect who's likely to never see the majors, would severely pissed me off more then any trade/signing this offseason. I was ok, not thrilled tho, with trading DeRosa, and trading Pie for Olson/minor leaguer, heck I was ok with trading Cedeno/Olson for Heilman, but if the Cubs trade Hill for a crappy prospect, I will be pissed. The Cubs would've traded Pie/Hill/Cedeno for Heilman and a prospect, and that would be a terrible use of resources.

Should have gotten Adam Dunn for him while we could have :)

I never would have thought that when Lou came and pulled him in the first inning vs. St. Louis last April that it was the last time we'd ever see Rich Hill in a Cubs uniform.

Who the heck did you expect the Cubs to get for Rich Hill, Matt Wieters?

Someone decent. Not like Henry Williamson, but someone similar to Nate Spears or Mike Fontenot, otherwise trading Hill because he is out of options is a complete FUBAR situation. Can't get someone decent, then see if Hill can make it as a swing man. Can't be worse then Neal Cotts.

Hendry is likely thinking beyond the PTBNL to opening another spot on the roster, which may give the team some flexibility to bring aboard another player, etc. He's clearly not finished tinkering.

ah...the voice of reason

Super, so he can go out and sign yet another Marquisesque starter so Sean Marshall can rot away in the pen again. Sorry if Im not excited about the prospects of Braden Looper or Randy Wolf.

This is quickly becoming the biggest clustersuck of an offseason in quite some time.

One a side note..... if Pie ends up OPSing like .770 next season and Hill suddenly become good or even adequate, I think i'm going to flip out based on the orioleshangout alone

He better not go trading Sam Fuld on us.

I don't get this reference

Hendrys Untouchables. Hes the last of his kind.

I wouldn't be surprised if the player to be named later is based off Hill performance. If Hill makes their rotation, Hendry will have a better prospect to choose from. If Hill sucks, and doesn't make the team out of spring training, then the Cubs might get some crappy A-ball pitcher.

I remember MacPhail/Hendry did something weird like that with the Trachsel trade. Like if the Cubs made the playoffs after getting Trachsel, the Cubs throw in another low level prospect. If the Cubs couldn't something that was potentially worth wild, I don't know why they would trade him at this point of the offseason. I know the Cubs might wanna clear his roster spot, but with four teams interested I think they could potentially get something for him. Plus I don't think his roster space is that important to have right now, that we would have to get rid of him right now.

Hill can't throw the ball in the ocean right now, using him on an irregular reliever's schedule sure isn't going to fix things, and the one thing we're not short on is 5th starter candidates with upside and question marks. If you think he's just going to humiliate himself more in Mesa, then trade him now. And remember that the further ST progresses, the less you get for Hill as the clock ticks toward the time they have to make a decision. In the end, what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter.

So let me get this straight - the Orioles end up with Pie and Hill, and we are not getting Brian Roberts?

Sweet, tap-dancing Julio.

What a terrible off season. So much for "winning now."

There has to be some kind of catch. There is no way that a ML GM is this big of an idiot.

I believe you're looking for Jake Renshaw. He struggled in High A last season after putting up decent numbers in Peoria while in the Cubs' system.

Cripes I hated that trade.
