I just thought of something - I wonder if there is a Cub alive, or that ever has lived..... who has ever been on a Cubs playoff roster more times than Wood.
Probably not more times, but Tinker to Evers to Chance, Three-Finger Brown, etc. were on postseason rosters as many times as Wood (1906--1908 and 1910).

Gabby had to be on the four teams in the 30s and late 20s.

You're right (29, 32, 35, and 38, the entire length of the every-third-year pattern). He missed most of the 29 season due to injury (only 25 games and 22 at-bats in the regular season), but he did play in all three Series games (albeit with only three at-bats, so it was probably as a pinch-hitter).

I scanned the ad in four pieces ... is there any way to upload the jpgs here? All I see are ways to link to a URL. If not, feel free to pm me w/your email and I'll send them along.

I was smoking outside my dorm a few years back and started chatting up a shortie, whose last name, I learned, was Hartnett. I then proceeded to yammer about the "homer in the gloaming" like a drunk sports nerd. It turned out she not only knew what I was talking about, but was related to Gabby. It was pretty cool but sadly I didn't end up marrying her.

thanks for the link . . . that's really nice.

anyone else besides Wood and Karros do this for the Cubs? It's a really nice gesture.

Sosa did this as well.

Similar thing, took a full page ad out in the Trib, thanking Cubs fans for a great year and said what an honor it was to be a Cub, how much he enjoyed it, etc.

A whole page? That's pretty cool, but kind of weird. Not unexpected though. I remember Karros really being amazed at the whole Cubs culture when he was here

Karros' ad was very similar to Kerry's IIRC - similar layout & font.

Whenever I think of Karros I think of http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cache.gettyimages.com/xc/2087607.jpg%3Fv%3D1%26c%3DViewImages%26k%3D2%26d%3D17A4AD9FDB9CF1934A2752006EF5F0EDEE0BC81465FE28DA5A5397277B4DC33E&imgrefurl=http://www.jamd.com/image/g/2087607&usg=__m8fy4WduNHrxkSRqwT7WldZms0o=&h=389&w=594&sz=55&hl=en&start=27&tbnid=BVGZQT59juItnM:&tbnh=88&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Deric%2Bkarros%2Bchicago%2Bcubs%26start%3D20%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN ... and smile.
