I wonder what Kerry's legacy will be in 10-20 years. At his best he was absolutely dominant. Injuries took out a pretty decent chunk of his career. He left on a good note and is well liked by most, and the feeling seems to be mutual. But was he great enough to be mentioned in the same conversation when the Cub greats come up, such as Sanburg, Santo, Williams, and Banks?

That will be his legacy unless he can recreate himself as a top of the line closer.

For one game he was.

no one on this board lives in chicago, and can place a piece of paper on a machine?

You could always buy a hard copy of it from the Tribune website for at most 2 dollars.

He just wants to see the scan. I will see what I can do today. (It wont be in color)

I'm going to try and find one at the library later today, and scan it there, if no one has already. I don't really want to order one off the web just to see one page. :\

I think he's always going to be remembered as a fan favorite, but not a great. Those other guys you listed (even Sanburg) have their numbers retired. Obviously that wouldn't be justified in KW's case.

Sosa did this too, where is all of the man-love for him?

Get over your KW love, everyone. He was an electrifying pitcher when he was at his best and could end up having a very good career as a closer, but he's not in the realm of the other Cubs greats (Banks, Williams, Sandberg, Sosa, Jenkins, Santo). Just because he was a good guy who understood what it is to be a Cub doesn't mean that he had some sort of hall of fame career while he was here. Granted, injuries played a part, but he is no legend.

Don't bring down the thread man. Go away!

No one's comparing him to those people, and if they were, I think most would be very realistic regarding where he stands.

And no one here has said he's a legend, either. Just a fan favorite (for his personality, work ethic, and charity work, I assume), someone who had one of the greatest moments in franchise (arguably league) history, and he thus far has overcome a career derailment to become a highly effective reliever.

If we're already elevating athletes to icons, why not Kerry Wood.

Thanks, that would be awesome.

there really isn't that much to see. the original post has the words that were on the page (at the top of it). at the bottom are three pictures. from left to right -- him signing his paperwork to become a cub, a photo of him during the 20k game, and then a random shot of him throwing in 08. in the center is him with his hand in the air waiting to high five geo seconds after clinching the division, with zambrano and others running onto the field in the background.

i'm going off of memory so that might be slightly off.

it's not the scan that you guys are all requesting, but it's the next best thing.

I just thought of something - I wonder if there is a Cub alive, or that ever has lived..... who has ever been on a Cubs playoff roster more times than Wood. I know Kerry Wood was instrumental in getting the Cubs to the playoffs in 1998, 2003, 2007, & 2008. Clearly, he has had an impact on this franchise.

Probably not more times, but Tinker to Evers to Chance, Three-Finger Brown, etc. were on postseason rosters as many times as Wood (1906--1908 and 1910).

Gabby had to be on the four teams in the 30s and late 20s.

Nice editorial in today's Trib: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-0120edit2jan20,0,3735496.story

If nobody scans the full-page ad I'll try to do it tonight, but with an 8.5 x 11" scanner I will have to do it piece-wise.

btw, did he put an ad in the Sunday SunTimes too?

Kerry's long-term legacy will be the most dominating pitching performance in modern MLB history. The stuff he had that day was absolutely unbelievable.
