WINTER CLASSIC: Red Wings Win 6-4 || 1/1/09 12:00 NBC

Kenney said that they are probably going to have to replace all the grass after the hockey game. This is a terribly time of year to be resodding.

I don't think they are going to do it right after the game. It can wait until February or March at least. And they might not actually have to do the work.

why do people like it

whether you like the sport or not, you at least have to respect the fact that hockey is pretty much the only sport left that is not full of greedy, arrogant, primadonnas and the players actually care more about the sport than the money. hockey players are generally legit

bullVeterans Committee.

Yeah, there are some Russian and Czech douchebags, plus Sean Avery.

I love the work you are doing to promote hockey Cyno, but don't you think the average person has a decent knowledge of hockey? I mean the NHL has been around for our entire lives, people played floor hockey in gym class or roller hockey or ice hockey with friends growing up etc. At some point people have been exposed to hockey in their lives I would think.

Maybe I'm wrong?

Familiar with does not equal knowing all the rules. We played a lot of floor hockey, but there was never any icing called. I would imagine most anybody who grew up in an area that regularly fell below freezing during the winter would have a hard time avoiding any exposure to hockey. But then again, I grew up in a mostly white suburb of Chicago during a time when the Blackhawks were very relevant. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of people who never played NHL94, pond hockey, floor hockey or even got on skates. It was very easy to grow up in Chicago and never actually see a hockey game on TV.

Exactly... when I get home I'll put up simple information about power plays and penalties/stoppages of play and how they work. It's no hassle to me to do it, and if it helps someone understand the game better then that's a bonus.

Why does this game have to be on while the Iowa football game is on?

This is the reason they created DVRs, they just planned ahead.

the game in Buffalo last year was just too weird to watch on TV. with the fans so far away, all of the closeup action looked like there was no audience

I can't wait. We rented a party bus when the Badgers played Ohio State at Lambeau. It was a blast of a time....but was kinda hard to view. We were about fifteen rows from the top and had a pretty good view, but I knew some people who got like 8th row and couldn't see over the players/beyond the glass.

Again, that was college and not the pros, and it was a solid 4 years ago, so hopefully things have changed.

I'm wondering how the camera angles will be for TV.

I am concerned that the sight lines at Wrigley are not going to be at a good enough angle for the lower deck people to get a good view. The couple of Cubs games I went to this year, I was thinking that were I was at would not be high enough to see the Hockey game very well

That's been my thought as well. The seats are going to mostly suck. The only good ones would be some small sections of the upper deck.

This does seem like it would be a cool thing to attend, but as far as watching on t.v.... no thanks. Plus, I think I'll be skiing that day.

Actually I think I'd rather watch this on TV than attend. Going to hockey games is better than going to, for instance, football games. But I'm looking forward to waking up late on the 1st, then sitting down on my couch with some friends eating, drinking and watching sports all day. Skiing would be a great option though.

Early accuweather forecast calls for wind, cold and snow, high around 20, low of 10

I asked this in the Blackhawks thread, but I wonder what the project beer sales are for this game? Its a perfect event for Goldschlager shots though.

I got a call a couple weeks ago begging me to work because apparently they're super-short-staffed.

The hell if I'm going out there on new years day to freeze my butt off.

You'd be surprised. If you have access to HD, you've gotta watch it. The Penguins/Sabres outside game was incredible on HD, whether youl ike hockey or not. The snow falling during the game was amazing looking. My brother hates hockey and he watched the whole thing. I heard of a klot of peopleo n TV saying the same stuff. If you're got HD, you've gotta watch it

Hockey live and in-person is definitely one of the most exciting sports to follow. I go to local AHL games occasionally and - although I really don't give a damn about the team's record - get pumped up and into the action. It's awesome.

But hockey on TV? Not nearly as good. Bad, in fact.

So much for being grateful for the opportunity to work in one of the best places on Earth. I'd gladly freeze a bit to spend more time in Wrigley, especially for such a unique event.

Layers, man!

Well either way I'll be skiing. Maybe I'll record it and watch later. Probably not though.

Explain where you're getting this child-like fantasy from.

Updated the main post with a few rules and such, anyone have any suggestions on anything else I should cover?

Why all the seats are crappy. What if you want to sit by the glass?

Sean Avery clearly cares about the sport before anything else.
