Urban Meyer has confirmed that Cornelius Ingram will not be back for the national championship game.

No real surprise, but Meph had mentioned there was a possibility he could return.

When asked Wednesday if Ingram figured into UF’s plans, Meyer said, “No. I’ve been asked that question a lot. I’d probably love it more than C.I. would love it, but we’re going to do (the right thing). It’s only three or four months after ACL surgery."

Also, in other non-shocking news, Meph's hero will submit paperwork to be evaluated by NFL scouts.

I hope he gets a good evaluation and decides to leave early. I don't think he'd make it at QB (though somebody will likely try), but I think he could fit well into a similar role that Kordell Stewart played early on for the Steelers - "jack of all trades, master of none," as it were.

Tebow will be as good at NFL QB as Kordell was at NFL WR so I can see the comparison.

i'm really not looking forward to the time when my favorite team will be changing coaches every 3-5 years

Not sure when that will be.

I hear Cowher's and (from extremely back channel whispers) Saban's names associated with that job when it opens. I don't see either of those being a 3-5 year job. Well... Saban, maybe.

Cowher would be the dream, but Paterno will more or less demand that Tom Bradley gets the promotion when he steps down.

That said, I see no reason that Penn State won't be like any other school in terms of coaches in the future. Paterno is a complete anomaly in the modern coaching world (along with Bowden) in that they've survived some poor seasons due to their reputation and long-standing contributions. If any other coach had posted losing seasons in 4 out of 5 years (like PSU did in the late 90's/early 00's) they would have been canned for sure. A new PSU coach won't have all the rope Paterno has had

Actually, we are always quite good in the late 90's. 1999 we were #1, then choked down the stretch.

We were bad 2000, 01, 03, and 04.

Cowher will be back in the NFL before he ever coaches college. If you want to predict a NFL coach to take over PSU, may I suggest Tony Dungy? You heard this here first, I'm sure...

PLease tell me you heard Tebow's interview with Mel Kiper? My goodness, it was so funny. Kiper suggested that he would be a great Frank Wycheck type in the NFL... HBack. Tebow handled it well, to his credit, by asking what he needed to do to be seen as a QB and not just a "playmaker" at the next level. But, Kiper basically told him

that he was not an NFL QB, but instead more of a FB/TE/HBack. It was priceless.

Mizzou fans, former WR Vidal Hazleton (the #1 wide receiver in the high school class of 2006) is set to transfer and his top 2 are Missouri and Rutgers (I guess Petey won't let him go to Penn State which was in a huge fight with USC for his service back in 06).

I heard clips from it. It was quite funny, but at the same time true.

Tebow is a terrific athlete who can excel at the next level as an athlete. Kiper's right, he's an H-back/TE/FB type player. He could be really, really good at that, though.

I think he could be an average quarterback, but with his athleticism he could be a great H-back/slash type player. Some GM will be intrigued by him as a QB, though, and I think he'll start his career there.

With the NFL incorporating more wildcat formations, he would be one of the few who would really be a threat to pass. I cant remember where i read but some guy thought he might be worth a 3rd round pick for that alone, if he got banged up big deal he was just a 3rd round pick anyway (i dont know how much i believe it but i thought it was interesting). He could be a ultraback plus wildcat qb. I remember Culpepper being a bad ass around the 5 yard line running draws, Tebow could still be the one man playaction he is in college for those type of plays.

That would be very very nice. We got his two buddies from Juco this week(one of them being former USC LB Josh Tatum), but I didn't realize Hazelton was that strong a possibility.

Yeah, that's why I keep mentioning Kordell in the slash role - I think Tebow could play some QB. I just don't think his abilities are being utilized best in that role. He's too athletic and not a good enough thrower to play 100% of the time at quarterback.

Unless somebody can come up with a good way to implement the spread option in the NFL - and I don't think that'll ever happen.

I'm waiting for Al Davis to draft Tebow in 2010, sign Vick, hire David Lee as coach (after firing Art Shell of course), and run some form of the wildcat (wilddog?). Would it work? Probably not, but it would be fun to watch.

Nah, Tebow won't cause enough trouble for Davis. If he gets arrested at some point, then he'll be a candidate for Oakland.

that doesn't make any sense, carroll can't control where he goes. maybe they're willing to let him play next year if he goes to certain schools but not if he goes to penn state?

There is some control I'm sure. I know Gary Pinkel won't let kids transfer to another D-1 school at all. If you come to Mizzou you're either going to honor your commitment, or you can go to a smaller school for a year and transfer back to a different D-1 school if you want.

Don't they have to be released from their scholarship? I'm pretty sure coaches can control, to some degree, where guys go.

Yeah, if a coach doesn't release a player from his scholarship willingly, then the player has to go through an NCAA appeals process to get it done - and like most things with the NCAA, those suck and are hard to win.

Coaches can then agree with players that they'll release them from their scholarship only for certain schools - and not for others, i.e. Carroll releasing Hazelton to go to Missouri but not releasing him to go to PSU.

Posted
well that's pretty crappy of carroll; it's not like penn state is a rival of usc.

Agreed. I don't really understand why he would hold that up.

If it were UCLA or ND or somebody, I could understand more. But Penn State? Unless he expects to play PSU in the next couple of Rose Bowls or something.

They are playing on January 1...conceivably Hazelton could give Penn State a lot of information if he transferred before then.

Although I'm not sure how you guys know Carroll isn't letting Hazelton go to Penn State. What in the article says that? Maybe he just wants to go to Mizzou?

It may have just been pure speculation by Raisin that Truffle and I ran with (shame on you Raisin  ).

he can give penn state a lot of information right now, as long as he owns a telephone or computer.
