The Chicago Tribune reported on Sunday that "Kansas City is focused" on second baseman Mike Fontenot and left-handed pitcher Sean Marshall in a possible trade for Teahen.

Teahen's name was linked to the Cubs in mid-October before the Royals had added to their outfield by obtaining Coco Crisp in a deal with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

Ugh, that would be horrible

That would be a horrible trade.

At least the article said KC was the one "focused" on getting both, not that the cubs had offered them. I don't want any part of Teahen at all however.

Only if they want the fire Jim Hendry bandwagon to fill back up to max capacity. Cedeno is the most Id give up for Teahen, and thats a stretch.

Note to Jim Hendry: when trying to break a 100 year drought, and build on a championship caliber team, taking the scraps from one of the worst teams in the history of the game is not the way to go.

If we absolutely couldnt get ahold of another RF, Id offer them Rich Hill, if they dont bite, walk away, and wed be better off with what we have.

Rich Hill has very little trade value, if any. Other teams know that Hill has to make the Cubs 25 man roster out of spring training or he will have to pass through waivers. There is < 1% chance of the Cubs rostering Hill, and other teams know it.

Fontenot is a similar player to Teahen & Marshall is a perfect swing guy to keep. This rumored trade makes little to no sense for the Cub. The Ceda for Gregg trade is also a joke. Hendry is infamous for the head scratching trade.

Let's not jump on Hendry yet...it sounds like he's asked KC about Teahan, and Marshall and/or Fontenot was their original response. That doesn't mean that Hendry has offered either, nor does it mean that either of those guys are what KC will settle for if Hendry does come back with a counter-offer. Or, maybe KCs initial request will let Hendry know there isn't a match to be made here. Hopefully Hendry is smart enough to not move either Fontenot or especially Marshall for him.

The Gregg trade may not have been popular, or even smart, but we all know it was a money saving trade to let Wood go. This trade would be pure lunacy.

Finally some who realizes that the mentioned names haven't been traded for Teahan. Calm down Hendry-lynchers until a deal is made.

Oh no how dare Hendry allow Kansas City to ask for players hes so stupid i cant believe he made this trade oh wait nothings happened yet well hes stupid anyway so there.

Teahen's numbers are not impressive at all. Are the Cubs concerned that Hoffpaiur couldn't put up a .715ish OPS in RF?

I think they're more concerned about the fact he may have trouble catching a cold out there, let alone baseballs.

If that is what it will take to get Teahan, what the heck will it take to get DeJesus? Yuck.

(Not that I am advocating getting either)

That's not necessarily what it will take to get Teahan. Think of the old business adage...you never accept the first offer. KC's first asking was obviously higher (or at least should have been, negotiation 101) than what their bottom line is. That said, the article is vague as to whether their first request for Teahan was for both or either. I'm guessing that the original request was for both, but they'd settle for Fontenot + B level prospect(s) (ftr, I wouldn't do that...).

I wouldn't be concerned over this rumor, and can't believe some are actually bashing Hendry like the deal is done. As for Teahan from everything I heard the guy is way down the Cubs list of potential options for RF. We will probably go after free agents in Bradley, Ibanez and maybe Abreu first. Or try to trade for Hermida, Ryan Church, Luke Scott and maybe even Randy Winn. If we fail to get all of those guys, then Mark Teahan probably comes on our radar. But even if we do trade for Teahan it's alot more likely to be for Fontenot or Cedeno with a guy like Kevin Hart or Randy Wells. I'd be shocked to see Marshall traded in any deal for Teahan.

I wonder if Fontenot could play RF and outproduce Teahan.

If they're getting Teahen to replace Ward/ Hoffpauir's spot I wouldn't mind him on the team in place of Fontenot as the LH bat off the bench.
