Was anyone else hoping Lou was going to throw a monumental fit last night on DeRosa's foul ball that obviously kicked up chalk? I'd like to see his frustrations shown, but maybe to someone other than the team.

And yes I do think it's possible for a team of professional baseball players to lose hope, concentration and drive. I'm a professional in a very competitive field and there are projects/days where I just feel like it doesn't matter what I do. That's a human feeling and these guys are human, despite what we want to believe. A classic Lou meltdown on the field last night may have diverted the attention a bit today from the team and loosened everyone up.

Unless your field is professional sports, it really isn't comparable. People always try and compare sports to their jobs. It's a different world and no matter how competitive your field is, it doesn't make your day to day job anything like a professional baseball player.

I think just pushes the point even more. The highs and lows of such a profession can't be ignored can they? The emotional strain on such a job, can we even begin to explain the psyche roller coaster that professional athletes go through? Or are they just machines without these human factors who go out every day without feeling and without emotional stress and just do the same thing over and over. Maybe I've missed the borg like conversion of professional athletes somewhere along the line.

If they couldn't handle the pressure, they wouldn't have made it this far.

"Holy crap, if I don't hit at AA this season, I'm going to be out of my low-paying job with only a high-school diploma and failed dreams. But if I do, all of my wildest dreams will come true because I'll have the money to make them."

I just think once the playoffs come this team just tenses and they play insanely tight. There's a feeling like they HAVE to win, especially this year and it just looks like they're too scared and maybe trying too hard out there.

I think this makes more sense than those who are claiming this team isn't motivated enough or they don't care.

Just hire a stripper to work the clubhouse an hour before gametime.

It's really not that hard.

Until the stripper shows up.

That's what she said?

What good is screaming at your players now going to do?

Is yelling at Soriano going to make him loose and stop pressing? Is yelling at Soriano going to make him stop swinging at pitches in the dirt?

Soriano is what he is and its stupid to think you will ever change him at this point.

Isn't that what we ask of managers and coaches? If they aren't trying to improve their players, why employ them in the first place?

Whoever said that he was surprised Lou didn't come out throw a fit. I am very surprised too... this team needs some sort of spark and that might have been it. Down or not, you HAVE to get those calls right.

But who improves the manager?

Apparently Lou went to Soriano at the far end of the clubhouse and the 2 had a conversation in Spanish. During the convo, it was overheard Lou telling Soriano to have some "cajones". I wonder if this talk to Sori is like Lous talk to Howry. We all know how well that worked....

lou is acting like a real douche the last 24 hours.

Yes. He should be giving all of his players big hugs and leading the team in a sing-along before they take the field. And after the game he can take them all out for pizza.

My son's coach would promise them a dollar for the concession stand if they won. Couldn't hurt to try it.

In his press conference today Lou said that he did not call out Soriano and whoever is spreading that rumor should stop it because it isn't true.

I don't believe Lou one bit.

Soriano IS the Legend of the Hidden Temple.

Nobody was singled out, and Piniella sent a similar message in English to other players in the clubhouse Thursday night after that ugly fiasco of a loss.

''I just said, 'Let's go,''' Piniella said. ''I just gave 'em a little pep talk.''

Albeit, with spice.

''He said if we want it, if we have some balls, we can play Game 5 in Chicago,'' Soriano said. ''He's right.''

''I said the same thing to the other guys in the lunch room,'' Piniella said.

So much for angry clashes and clubhouse breakdowns.

''Erroneous reporting,'' Piniella said of the Comcast report early Friday morning.

Not that Piniella wasn't angry after the 10-3 loss that put the Cubs on the brink of a second straight three-and-out playoff cameo.

''He was pissed off, but he didn't say anything [personal] to me,'' Soriano said. ''But his body language said a lot to us.''

Lou's been totally low key in both games, too low key if you ask me. That one play that dropped just on the edge of the line (it looked fair on the replay--sorry but I forgot which one of our guys hit it).... Lou was sitting on the bench, he had no view of it at all. Then he realizes it might be a close play or someone said something and he hops up and starts looking out at the field, etc. He's got to be into the game at all times, come on. Lou seems to totally have lost his intensity.

Silly.

You actually believe that one of the problems is that Lou isn't intense enough?
