I honestly believe a big reason the Cubs are choking is they are feeling this kind of pressure, from this kind of post. I don't really mind the spirit of this post, and it's intent, and would love to see the Cubs win it for anyone who has been watching this team their whole lives. I think the Cubs players need to just forget about the city, the fans, and the organization. Just play ball! The Cubs PLAYERS have to want to win it for themselves...Maybe that will take some pressure off.

Are you serious? Do you really think the players went out there thinking,"Man, I really want to win this for that fan in seat 4 in section 220, thatd be great"? The players want to win it for themselves plain and simple. They know if they are on the Cubs team that wins the World Series, it would be epic.

Santo, Banks, Ryno, Billy Williams, and the rest: These guys never won a championship, the Cubs have to win a World Series for all the old-timers. It'll never be as sweet to them as a championship for themselves, but I want them to see a WS victory in their lifetimes.

Steve Bartman: This guy doesn't deserve all the crap he gets by some (usually less informed) fans. It'd be great to see a WS victory, and have Bartman come back for the first pitch/stretch, in a game next year. After everything he faced in '03 and beyond, he's still a loyal fan and won't even cash in on his fame.

All Cubs fans, alive or not: They need it, for their sanity. Plain and simple.

You seriously don't think the players have a relationship with the fans and what they have been through? I would hate to believe that someone like Kerry Wood or Derrek Lee doesn't care about "that fan in seat 4 in section 220". Sure there are some players who probably could care less about the fans, but the guys on this Cub team for the most part don't strike me as those types of players. Does Mark DeRosa strike you as that selfish of a human being, to not give a rats behind about the Cub fans? So yes, I do believe they are feeling the pressure of not winning in 100 years, and after hearing about it every day since March, how could they not? My point is I hope they try to forget about letting everyone down and just go out and win it for themselves, thus taking a lot of pressure off.

Win it for yourselves, the only people to whom you owe anything.

The rest is self-indulgent tripe.

Exactly. Don't win this for Cubs fans, or their grandfathers, or whatever or whoever you want to win for. Nobody but the 25 men who play the game, should only want to win it for the guy who they sit next to. The guys you battle through 162 games of up and down. Winning and losing streaks. Day and night games. And doubleheaders and 4 games in 3 night scheduling. Do it fo the guy who comes into work at 8 am and leaves the job hours after the game is over. Do it for the guys who works hard even tho it doesn't look like he's trying hard, and he gets rip in themedia. Most importantly, do it for yourself. No fans, no matter the age or health, or race or IQ level goes through what each and every ballplayer goes through in a professional season.

Win it because you've play baseball long enough that you should be at the top of the pinnacle. Do it for youself. Each player deserves to be call "the best" if for one shining moment in their lives. The fans, the love, the celebration are fun and a nice perk to winning, but do it to reach the top of your profession. That's all I ask.

Dodgers fans get cancer too.

Dodger fans had a World Series to celebrate 20 years ago.

Not much help to the 19-year-old Dodger fans who get leukemia, is it? Why do you hate the leukemia kids? Instead of hoping for a Cubs win, you should fly down to LA right now and start taunting a children's hospital's leukemia ward. It's the same thing.

Ooooh, I want to take this a step further. In order to not sadden anyone with a life-threatening illness, winning and losing in sports should be done away with. Because god damnit, no matter what, someone's going to be happy, and someone will be sad.

I vote for "funs" instead of runs in baseball. Everybody just goes out for a little exercise, they get paid in Monopoly and Life money. Oh and the score always end 0-0. because funs aren't runs obviously, so nobody ever scores. And at the end there's a showing on the jumbotron of Little House on the Prairie, just so we all get an extra life lesson.

That way everyone can be happy.

They have the Lakers from 2000-2003.

Strangely enough, the Bulls never got anything close to my level of interest and dedication that I have for the Cubs, Bears, and Badgers.

Without the fans, these guys don't have a job.

The fans pay to see major-league baseball (or volunteer to watch advertising during the games). They get what they paid for, end of transaction.

Without the players, the fans wouldn't have a team to imbue ridiculous amounts of emotional symbolism into.

This may get me banned but oh well. This is the dumbest thread in the history of this board. Dodgers fans get cancer and have all the same issues you just posted, why does a Cubs fan deserve it more then them? In the end it's sports, don't let your life's happiness depend on it. It's a game, don't make it bigger then what it is. Be pissed, be happy, be whatever, but don't make it your life.
