This just on Roto.. Just come to the Cubs if you want to come to a contender..Simple enough

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, Jake Peavy and his agent have decided that they'd like Yunel Escobar to remain with the Braves if Peavy is traded to Atlanta.

In other words, Peavy wouldn't want his potential new team to be weakened by the trade to get him. "One of the things we will want to look at some point is, 'Who are you giving up? How much are you weakening your team to make this deal?'" agent Barry Axelrod said. "If Team X trades three starting pitchers and a starting shortstop to get Jake Peavy, that lessens their chance of being a successful team." Peavy demanding that the team dealing for him keeps all of its MLB talent would make life a lot tougher on Padres general manager Kevin Towers.

The Braves deal was centered around Escobar, they'd pretty much have to give in on Hanson to get it done now.

If worse came to worse I'd probably do it, but I'd really hate to give up both Marshall and Samardzija. Not because their combined value is so great, but losing both our cheap 6th starter options at once would be tough to take.

Thats when you pray to God for Rich Hill to return to at least mediocrity.

It might just be blind hope, but I'm thinking it won't be both Shark and Marshall in the package. That's probably what the Padres deserve for Peavy, but they don't seem to have a lot of leverage.

This is looking very favorable for the Cubs. Peavy won't accept a trade to the Braves if it costs them some of their current starters, thereby hurting their chance to contend. Hey Peavy, look at the division. The Braves are probably a 4th place team next year with or without you. The Phillies just won the World Series and will look to be just as good or better next year. The Mets have all kinds of money to throw at FA pitchers this offseason, which will make them a much better team than Atlanta. Florida has a solid pitching staff and young talent to trade to make their team even better. Atlanta isn't going to be a contender next year. Period.

The Cubs, on the other hand, have a great shot of winning their division with or without you. Milwaukee loses Sheets and Sabathia. St. Louis is looking in garbage bins all over America to fill out their roster. Houston is, well, Houston. Cincinnati is probably the biggest threat to the Cubs next year.

Just get it done.

Get it done, Jimmy!

I'll be first in line to buy a Peavy jersey-tee if he becomes a Cub.

Yeah, but I can get my hands on a Peavy Padres jersey and some blue sharpies. I win.

I hope hope doesn't go to the Braves. It would be such a a letdown. He would be going to a team thats a mess and not competeing. Get the hell out of this Braves and just leave it to us.

I just hope this isnt another Brian Rooberts thread.

I don't see why it would. From where I'm sitting, this is moving much faster than anyone would have anticipated. There are really only 3 serious players for Peavy, and Towers probably needs this to be done sooner rather than later, because he has other players he's looking to move and will need to know what spots need to be filled.

I'm just glad I have a busy slate this weekend so that I'm not spending 24 hours a day waiting to see this deal happen. I had way too much time to kill during the Roberts fiasco.

In the event this deal goes down sometime this weekend and I'm not here and Peavy goes to the Cubs, let me officially say that I will have been very excited about the trade (assuming that Marmol and Soto were not part of the package).

I'd hate Hendry and the Cubs with every ounce of my being if they included Soto.

Sorry, Meph says we'd have to in order to get him.

Luckily, Peavy would not allow the deal to happen if Soto was in the package. It's obvious that Peavy's main reason for wanting to be traded to the Cubs is because of Soto. We haven't won a World Series for 100 years, so it's obviously not because of our historic winning ways.

Soto+Dempster > Peavy.

It would never happen, however I am a little worried about Marmol being in the deal.

So...I let myself get totally completely distracted by politics the last couple months, and somehow I missed all this...(or at least missed how realistic it might be). I am naturally pleasantly surprised.

I just thought of Zambrano, Peavy and Harden in the same rotation and drooled a little bit. Sorry next person who uses this computer at the library.

The Braves are in a rebuilding phase right now. They were 20 games back last year. If he wants to come to a place where a sub 3 ERA won't net you a losing record in 30 starts, then come to Chicago Jake!

That's what I see, also. Atlanta would be better off letting their young guys develop and then see if they can add a veteran starter or two once these guys develop. The Braves lose if they win a bidding war with the Cubs. The Cubs aren't trading away their future to get Peavy. Atlanta is.

Honestly, I might be more afraid of the Dodgers at this point. If they really are offering Manny 25m a year, then the Dodgers may not be serious players for Sabathia, and might cough up a decent package for Peavy.

Haha, the Yunel Escobar bit sounds like Kobe Bryant saying he'd veto a trade to the Bulls because the Bulls were giving up good players in return.

Surprised nobody mentioned this, but Levine was on with Waddle and Silvy maybe a half hr ago, said that he still expects a deal to be done by Monday sending Peavy to either the Cubs or Braves. Said it looks like a Cubs package would involve Felix Pie, Ronny Cedeno, Mitch Atkins, and I can't remember if he said Sean Marshall or Rich Hill as the other piece.

Said Mitch Atkins is a guy they seem to like a lot.
