I know this is completely useless information, but a decently connected friend in AZ just sent a congrats text. I followed up and he confirmed this was done.

Again, who knows, who cares. But others are at least hearing similar things.

I know, not trying to pass on speculation about a trade.

Hendry is a god at trades. It's FA's he kind of sucks at.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

If he can get Peavy without giving up too much, I'll gladly give him a mulligan on that horrible 2006 trade. He's defintely had more good ones than bad ones, at least when we're talking major trades and not the type of trades no one on either side cares too much about.

He did quite well in the minor trades of Todd Walker and Freddie Bynum.

I didn't mean to imply he bombs on the small trades, only that he's had mixed results. There have been several good ones, but also had some not so good ones like Cruz for Pratt, Sosa and Farns both for crap, Wellemeyer for nothing, Maddux for Izturdis, anyone for Kendall, all were deals that looked bad when they were made and look anywhere from bad to neutral at best. There's been several other good ones too. On the major trades, he'd be batting 1.000 as far as I'm concerned if he hadn't overpaid for noodle-armed Slappy.

No, just saying, random text came across. Nothing more, nothing less.

How connected is your friend? Do you think he actually has a good source of this info? Any info like this should be taking FWIW, but there's nothing wrong with reporting stuff like this if you think it's valid.

He's not in baseball at all, but handles financial investments for players.

Yeah, I deff intended this to be a FWIW post, mostly antecdotal.

My somewhat connected friend just texted me and told me his balls itch. Just speculation at this point though

Eh, sort of uncalled for. Garwilly is a long time poster here and there's no reason to doubt he heard what he did. I know it's easy to poke fun after the Roberts stuff last year, though.

Sun-Time article on Cubs's pursuit of Peavy.

Link.

Swinging a deal for Peavy could cost the Cubs some valuable young talent, including a pitcher who is major-league-ready, such as left-hander Sean Marshall or perhaps right-hander Rich Harden.

The Padres also need help at second base and might be targeting Mike Fontenot.

A declining Sosa for Fontenot isn't crap, imo.

ESPN just gave an update reiterating how awesome the Cubs rotation would be w/ Peavy, and saying the Dodgers are in the running. Said something to the effect of whoever offers the most good, young players will get him. I never would've guessed.

FWIW, I still think the OH guys had legit info. Even Roberts admitted that he was told he was on his way out at one point. I just think the O's front office is/was a huge mess.

I would be happy with a Marshall for Peavy trade. I don't understand why they would want Harden, or why Hendry would trade him right now.

I don't understand why people are acting like jerks towards this guy for just passing along information. It's not his fault some of you people believed posters over at the OH for having inside information, and the trade never happened. Edited by cubsfan26

Haha I'm just playing....relax dudes. It wasn't meant to be a shot at that guy anyways. Perhaps the reference to my package was unneccessary though
