No Cubs in KC? Damnit. Wait, no Cubs versus KC anywhere? That sucks. I'm sure the Cards will play them 6 times though.

You never know, people were complaining that the Cubs had to play TB while others played the Yankees, and how did that turn out?

And we will still not have played KC since 2002. STL will have played them like 42 times since the last Cubs game against them by the end of 2009.

Please please please please please send them to KC.

Seriously. Tickets are what, $0.75 there?

Yeah, that'll get you a pair I think.

This is why I can't wait for the Cubs to come to Oakland - cheap tickets.

Reminds me of a joke I heard. Before Michael Jordan, you could get Bulls tickets at the gas station. It would be like "Can I get $20 on Pump 1, and 2 Bulls tickets?" The gas station attendant's response would be,. "Yeah, that'll be 22 dollars"

that's why. i would trade a series with the tigers for a series with the royals simply for this reason. is baseball trying to keep some teams from playing each other? like for instance toronto and tampa rather than new york and boston. i don't care how good (or bad) we or they would have been. it would have made excellent tv to have the yankees or red sox play the cubs in chicago or boston or new york.

the cubs have never played a regular season game in oakland or fenway as an opponent of the red sox. coulda fixed one of those this season.

Is anybody else confused about why MLB released the schedule when it did?

They usually follow a pattern of leaking certain matchups and then release the schedules in the winter when interest has waned. I don't get why they would throw this out in the middle of pennant races. They hate having news break during the playoffs, especially the World Series. What is the point?

It does seem random, doesn't it?

I'm probably just weird, but I like how they did it in the past because you could slowly piece the whole schedule together rather than just seeing it all unveiled at once. That made for something fun in the offseason.

I actually prefer getting it all at once and earlier, it just goes against all of MLB's typical marketing decisions.

It makes it easier to plan trips back to Chicago and any other road trips.

While MLB didn't release the official schedule until later, it has pretty much always followed the tentative schedule to the letter. Most people just follow the tentative schedule release.

And for example, last year the Cubs released that schedule on October 11th. I don't see this as very much different then teams releasing their schedules in the middle of the playoffs.

I guess I always thought that was after the playoffs.

I remember last year the schedule didn't get released until like November. This is pretty odd that it's out this early. And it's hard to tell which games are going to be the hard ones since you know, it's still 2008. I'm still focused 100% on right now.

cleveland, kansas city, detroit, minnesota

when the cubs played them last, who was the home team? it may affect next year's vacation plans.

@ CLE

@ KC

vs. DET

@ MIN

Were we really @KC? The last time I remember playing them was 2002 and it was at Wrigley. The only other year that we've played the Central since was 2006 and we missed the Royals that year.

They played in KC years ago. One night was on ESPN, which is the only time you can watch the Royals in my hometown, so you never get to watch them in my hometown. Both teams wore blue uni's which was confusing. That's all I remember from it.

6 games at Petco and 4 at Chavez Ravine? I'm in.

I'm always out of town during the time when the Cubs play the Padres in August, but I think I'll take a year off from being out of town and do all 6 games in SD and all 4 in LA.

Instead of a working vacation, I'll call it a baseball vacation. I might even make a trip over to the "BOB" for a few games.

Didn't notice the extra 3 in San Diego earlier in the year!! I gotta somehow figure out a way to go to a few Petco games this year, it's been a few seasons.

You shouldn't have any problems getting tickets unless the Cubs are in town. Moores is going to get kicked in the crotch on season ticket sales for 2009.

I like that the Cubs H/R schedule is much more balanced out that it was this year.

Yep, next year they play 81 home and road games. This year there are 81 home games and only 80 road games. Much more balanced out.

Dont you meen 92 home games? You forgot the Wrigley Field North games against the Astros an Brewers.

Been up all day.

Thanks Cynosure. I guess I should read the list of posts before I jump in with a duplicate!

We aren't home til April 13th? That's kinda lame...

Well, there is that series in Milwaukee right before that, so it's like you have two home openers. ;)

Especially if the Brewers blow the playoffs this year.

If they do make the playoffs I would disagree... and I'd hope a lot of Brewers fans would make it out there for a Cubs Brewers game early in the season, the Brewers could still be good next year if they can keep Sheets somehow.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the Brewers if they miss the playoffs/get swept in round 1 and don't bring back CC or Sheets. Even if they made a nice signing(say AJ Burnett) to replace one and got a nice bat, I wonder if Brewer fans will be quite as passionate in selling out the stadium every night. It's pretty unbelievable the sellout streak they've managed to pull off since getting CC. If they don't make the playoffs, I wonder if a lot of the wagon jumpers/dying for a winners will jump off/give up and it'll be back to 25,000-30,000 a night.

Granted Attanasio and the front office have done an amazing job to even make that the bare minimum for next season, but I think playoffs or no playoffs the Brewers absolutely have to spend and spend big this offseason to prove they're in it for the long haul. They absolutely cannot let CC and Sheets walk and come back with roughly the same team with a few patchwork vets thrown in there. Some sort of splash needs to be made.

I'm not saying fritter away money for the sake of spending, but they can't sit back and wait on prospects anymore. The Sabathia trade was excellent and should've propelled them to coasting into the playoffs. It has not, and they need to do something about it. Melvin can't be content with the status quo this offseason.

Usually someone around here posts a outlook version of the schedule. I know there are no gametimes yet but I wondered if anyone will be doing that again this year.
