Magic number still goes down 1. Just need to keep doing that everyday and all will be well.

Sorry, but that's a losers mentality. I want this team to earn it dow the stretch, not rely on the Brewers fading.

Lee used to hit opposite field homeruns on a somewhat consistent basis. He just can't do it anymore. He hit that ball about as hard as he could.

Lulz to the statement about the "overachieving offense" towards a team actually below its pythag.

What does an overachieving fofense have to do with their pyth record? Not sure what you're talking about

Ryan Theriot

Derosa

Edmonds

Johnson

Fontenot

All key contributers who are playing wayyyy above expectations. If those guys return to where we expected them to be, how much better is this offense than last year? Better,m but not significantly better.

Silliness. Even if we had a 10 game losing streak to end a season and 2nd place had a 9 game winning streak, to give us the Championship by a single game . . . we were still a game better over the course of the season.

Umm, if the Cubs win and the Brewers win, that's still 1 game down. I'm not saying the Cubs should lose out and hope the Brewers do to. I'm just saying all is well as long as the magic number goes down either way. Cubs wins are obviously ideal.

You really have no clue how magic #s work do you?

Huh? I understand exactly what he was saying, I just think it's a loser's mentality to be clinging to the fact that we have a 4.5 game lead with a full month left to play.

"Oh well, we lost, but who cares! And whoi cares if we win tomorrow? The Brewers might lose then too"

I don't want to fade down the stretch and rely on the Brewers losing to win the division. I want them to go into the playoffs hot.

Again, if you put together a team of the best players in baseball history and had them play 162 games, I guarantee you that they'd lose 3 in a row at one point.

I'll be worried if we are still playing this poorly at the end of September

He has the fly out to RF and 6-4-3 down to a science. He has 5 HR in the last 3 months and he hit a grand total of 1 in August. That's pathetic from a 3 hitter.

I don't know that I'd go that far, but the notion that it's a losers mentality to suggest that today's outcome is still a positive one is absurd, too.

Where the hell do you get that he was saying that it's ok for the Cubs to play bad down the stretch if the Brewers do too?

You can't just take a comment based on one day and extrapolate it to an entire month. Obviously a bad month would be far more concerning than this small stumble this weekend.

My god.

This is getting hard to take. The foe list just got bigger.

I can't bring myself to putting anyone on my foe list. It's like I need to see every single annoying post out there.

The main concern I have is Edmonds likely having lost his swerve. His prolonged hot streak basically made up for Lee. Now that Edmonds is likely out of gas, that's trouble.

Yup it's a bit of a worry, but as long as the right people get hot in October we'll be good.

That's what its all about is getting hot in October. If that doesn't happen we'll be toast either way.

How odd. dextermorgan was obsessed with CubsGM when he was here...now that CubsGM is banned, dextermorgan has BECOME CubsGM.

Again you focus on insults instead of telling me what was wrong with my statement. All I did was question whether or not we'd be able to get the same production out of overachieving players and I get jumped all over.

How about if Lee and Fukudome perform where we expected them to be? And you're overlooking a huge upgrade to the offense at catcher. It went from being a complete black hole last year to being one of the top 2 or 3 in baseball, and it wasn't totally unexpected.

Another brilliant offensive performance today.

I think it's safe to say the hot streak is over. Which is fine with me. If they're going to suck again, I want it out of their system before October.
