Win this game sweep the series. Lose this game, win the series. I expect the Mets to take 2 of 3 from the Brewers, so we'll have our 6.5 game lead back.

 

I'm only expecting the Mets to take 1 of 3 from the Brewers.

 

Just take care of business at home against the Astros like we usually do and everything will take care of itself.

Like Brett Myers, Oswalt is starting to save what was a horrible season for him. He has gone at least 7 innings in each of his last 5 starts, for an ERA of 1.95. That is down to 1.57 over his last 3, with just 10 hits allowed in his last 23 innings. After allowing a whopping 16 HRs in April and May, Oswalt has given up just 5 longballs since.

 

On the other side, Marquis has alternated good and bad starts all month. His last outing was his best of the season. However, even his recent bad outings could have been avoided without the 1 bad inning he has had in each of those games. Ten of the 13 runs Marquis gave up in August, came in 3 innings (6th vs. Wash, 3rd vs. Hou, 2nd vs. Pit). Missing Carlos Lee will be a huge break for Jason, as Lee and Berkman have literally molested him in their careers. Marquis should be able to pitch around the Big Puma and take his chances with the rest of the Astros lineup.

 

The Astros have won 5 in a row, including probably ending the Cardinals season this weekend. However, they have done so by scoring 4 or fewer runs 4 times. In their last 7, Houston is scoring under 3 1/3 runs per game, and that includes an 8 run outburst. As was mentioned, this is the only matchup that doesn't favor the Cubs in this series. If the Cubs can get Oswalt out before the 7th, they will win.

Back in the mid 70's I worked for a truckline up in Wisconsin that had Stewart Warner as a client. In those days, Stewart Warner was the leading manufacturer of stadium scoreboards. So, when they made the scoreboard for the stadium in Honolulu, we sent 4 trucks down to Chicago to load it all up, then they drove out to L.A., and right on to a Matson Lines' vessel. A week later, they drove off the ship in Honolulu, and right over to the stadium where the crane was waiting for them. This all happened a couple of years before I joined the company, so I wasn't able to participate in that one. I did, however, have a hand in hauling scorebaords to the old Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta, and also to the Meadowlands in New Jersey.

 

Went to a sports bar about 4 miles down the coast from here for dinner last night. It was called Drysdale's, so I inquired about the name, and they told me, yes, it's that Drysdale. When I pointed out that Don Drysdale had passed away several years ago, they told me that the ex wife, Ginger, got ownership of the bar in the divorce. Oh well, the Angus burgers were very good.

 

Everything I've seen here so far is very beautiful, and very expensive. Will post some pictures later.

Stupid Sunday train schedule on holidays. :banghead:

 

I was planning on taking a train at like 11:03 out of Matteson, but then I remembered it's Labor Day (yes, I actually am the kind of guy that would forget it's a holiday, but in my defense I work really odd days/times) so now it looks like I have to wait until 11:55, effectively blowing my chance of getting to the park before it opens. I love getting there early, walking up the ramps, and drinking a beer from that balcony in the 400 level, and watching all the people arrive, but, whatever.

 

Really good ticket today. If anybody hears a "sli-ding-glass-door" chant, there's a very good chance it's me. And depending on how drunk I am, I might make some thunder and lightning noises during Berkman's AB's.
