The Cubs have come back to win the first two games in this series, and they go for their 10th straight series win. Brett Myers pitches for the Phillies, and has won his last two starts by allowing no runs in either one. Myers defeated the Cubs in April, pitching eight innings and allowing three hits off of five runs. Lilly goes for the Cubs and August is statistically his best month so far. He's allowed a season low 12 earned runs in the month, and has a 3-1 record. Lilly was defeated on April 12th by the Phillies in which he went just 4 1/3 inning allowing five runs and seven hits.

I find it eerie that a home run hitting team like the Phillies has yet to hit on out of Wrigley yet. With Ted Lilly on the mound, it could be like throwing 10 lbs of raw meat to to a pack of starved wolves.

Then agan, we're due up for an ofensive romp as well. We didnt have much luck againt Myers last time though, and the Phillies starters have kp us in check. Kind of ironic though, considering the Phillies pen is considered a strength and starting pitching a weakness.

Myers has a 1.66 ERA in 7 starts, since coming back from his stint in the minors. He has also somehow become an extreme groundball pitcher since then. Though Myers hasn't allowed a run in his last 2 starts (16 innings), he has allowed 18 hits in those starts. Only 3 of those hits have gone for extra bases (2 by Matt Kemp), though he was facing the Nats and Dodgers. The Cubs offense is clearly better than those two, so I don't expect Myers to toss another shutout.

On the other side, I worry about Lilly. A flyball pitcher vs. some flyball hitters. Lefties have absolutely destroyed Lilly this year and the prominent power guys in the Philly lineup are Howard and Utley. Granted Howard hasn't hit LHPs at all this year, but Werth and Burrell have destroyed them. As usual, the key will Lilly will be to limit the free passes. Odds are, he will give up at least 1 long ball today (has given up a HR in all but 4 of his last 18 starts). If he limits those to solo shots, the Cubs should be able to score enough to win.

"I've been more selective at home plate and I try to make contact," he said. "It was a very good pitch, and I hit it very hard."

So this latest walk craze by Sori wasn't just a random boost in walks, rather a conscious desire to be more selection. Maybe the patience bug has infected Soriano as well.
