The Cards really needed at least 2 in this series to have any hope at the division; with the Brewers winning, they may need 2 just to keep pace in the WC race. Facing those odds, not to mention Z on the mound, I expect we'll see an increasingly desperate Cards team: perhaps a few more chances to blow up a squeeze, gun down a guy at home, and pick off a baserunner. :D

 

The Cubs should roll today. I just hope it doesn't get chippy, though with LaRussa that's usually a hollow wish.

With Zambrano only throwing 80 pitches his last time out, Lou will probably ride him deep if the game is close. I'd love to see Zambrano toss a shutout while throwing 120 pitches or less. Actually, let's just go for a perfect game instead!

Welly has turned it back around since his rough stretch started in mid June. He had a 6 start stretch w/ a 7.55 ERA, but is at 2.64 in his last 3. Neither of his starts vs. the Cubs have been bad, but he's been doing a lot of damage control. That being said, he Cubs should be able to do some damage if they are patient with Welly. Wellemeyer has yet to face Jim Edmonds. The last time vs. the Cubs, there was no Soriano, Fukudome or Edmonds. The first game vs. Welly, the Cubs didn't have Ramirez in the lineup, who is 3-3 against him.

 

I'd like to see a (logical) lineup of:

All I know is Larussa better think about it long and hard and decide if he wants the reprecussions. We have some guys who throw awfully awfully hard in our bullpen, and I doubt he wants Albert or Ludwick taking a Jeff S fastball to the body. However we all know how Larussa works

Wonder what the chances are of a Yankee/Angels rainout, someone needs to go there and do a rain dance or something.

Welly has turned it back around since his rough stretch started in mid June. He had a 6 start stretch w/ a 7.55 ERA, but is at 2.64 in his last 3. Neither of his starts vs. the Cubs have been bad, but he's been doing a lot of damage control. That being said, he Cubs should be able to do some damage if they are patient with Welly. Wellemeyer has yet to face Jim Edmonds. The last time vs. the Cubs, there was no Soriano, Fukudome or Edmonds. The first game vs. Welly, the Cubs didn't have Ramirez in the lineup, who is 3-3 against him.

 

I'd like to see a (logical) lineup of:

 

Soriano

Theriot

Lee

Ramirez

Edmonds

Soto

Derosa- RF

Fontenot

Zambrano

 

You know with Lou's desire to alternate lefties and righties, that if he uses that lineup either DeRosa or Soto will be batting eighth with Fontenot seventh.
