That excuse is lame, IMO. He's 30 years old. It's not like he's a 20 year old kid who has 12-14 years of solid production. He hit well in April and has been mediocre at best 3 1/2 months. JMO.

 

Except it's not a lame excuse. A guy playing his first game in a new league and at a new level of competition is just that. Not to mention that it's his first year in a new country as well. He's going to struggle at times. Yes, it would be nice if he was hitting better, but I'm not going to be worried until the middle of next year.

Again, Matsui had a .780ish OPS his first season in the states and hasn't been under .850 since. Not saying its the exact same thing, but Fukudome was a really good hitter in Japan and has shown flashes of awesomeness over here. People are acting like he's been downright awful this entire season. It's hard to say something like 'give him another year', but considering we have him under contract for another 3 years, that's what we'll have to do. Let's not boo him out of town like we do all our other players that fail to immediately live up to expectations.
