Looks like one of those days where the offense decodes to take the day off. Was it a good time to take out Demp, or was it just for the sake of a pinch hitter?

he was at 110 pitches

Yes and Yes.

Another example of throwing hard not equating to success in the majors.

You're right. Cubs management just need to start avoiding these guys with terrific stuff from now on!!!!

He had 110 pitches. It was time for him to go.

Please have Len sing every day. Thanks.

Len, Bob, Pat and Ron should all sing. That way it would resemble a tribute

And next...

the obligatory "The Shark is broken" thread....

I still think it was a stupid draft pick.

Stupid? no. Over hyped and over paid? yes. He was a 5th round pick that folks got over excited about. We'll see how it turnsout down the road.

The gamble by Lou failed, but it still wasn't a bad outing

Exactly.

Even giving up the run, seeing those constant 97s, 98s, and 99s on the gun were goosebump-inducing!!

Decent debut from the Shark. He gave up a soft single to Ramirez and a double to Cantu on a pitch up around the letters so it's not like he left a bunch of pitches over the middle of the plate and got blasted. Sure, he was a bit wild at times but I'm going to chalk that up to adrenaline.

He walked the best hitter in baseball and allowed a double to a guy who got three hits off of Zambrano. He didn't do that bad.

He didn't walk anyone. But, your point remains. That wasn't that bad.

Samardzija was brought up partially because the pen is taxed. He didn't bring him in with inherited runners, and he didn't do it in the 9th or something. It was a fine time to use him, and I'd consider having him go another inning.

And it wasn't just hitting those high heat numbers, he had lots of movement on most of them. Just plain nasty.

I agree on every point.

It's funny how the game situation distorts everything. If it's a 9-3 game and he gives up the run we're talking about how great his stuff looks. 2-1 game and he gives up a run, he sucks, he's overpaid and he was a horrible draft pick.
