It's what, day two of TC? I think we can forgive a few mishandled snaps at this stage, can't we?

I'm not too worried about it. Just think it's funny.

Over-reaction on my part. Scusi.

this is why i don't bother following the NFL until September. I don't have the constitution to hang on every update from day one of training camp

I like seeing them show-up and reading the stories, but the minute-by-minute updates of practice, and fan reaction to practice, is a bit much. It would be impossible not to follow it at all until September though.

i'll take nightly updates or newspaper snippets. That said, I don't even watch pre-season NFL games. They are the most boring thing in sports

I like watching the very beginning of the first one, just cause it's the first football I've seen in months and months. Also like watching the 3rd because the starters play a good amount. Otherwise, I agree.

Ha, apparently after the Grossman/Davis play, Brown shouted out, "Y'all better put this on your radio stations. He pushed off!"

Preseason games are ok. I like to see how a lot of unproven players are doing. The 4th quarters of preseason games are worthless, though. Watching guys who I know won't make the team play horribly is like the watching the XFL wearing stolen NFL uniforms.

...with still no contract worked out.

Team player. Good for him. Bears should re-do that deal, I think they will in fairly short order. If anyone has outplayed his rookie contract, it's Hester.

My guess is Angelo told the agent to tell Devin, "Remember when Urlacher showed up to OTA and then they signed him?" They probably refused to sign him while he was holding out, and told him, show up, and then we'll sign.

That could be true. At any rate, I'm listening to alot of silly hand-wringing on the radio this morning about how this is "typical Bears" and they should have "given Hester his money long ago."

Honestly, do most Bear fans feel this way? Looking at the picture, I really don't see how the Bears have botched their negotiations this offseason. I think they've actually done a pretty good job. Hester's a player under contract -- he has asked for more money. The Bears have agreed to negotiate a new contract. What else can reasonably be expected here?

This was the right way to do it. Skip a couple days and show up...you show the Bears you're serious, but you don't miss enough camp to do a lot of damage to your growth at the new position...

Exactly....the Bears might have tense negotiations with players, but how many players have left the team or went another direction because of the Bears tough negotiations. Alex Brown, Vasher, Urlacher, Briggs, Hester, even Gould all went public with their negotiations, and all of them are still here. Briggs is the prime example. He said he would never play another down for the Bears, finally accepted the Franchise Player tag with the goal of unrestricted FA next year, and he ended up coming back to the team for less than we all thought.

Briggs doesn't seem too angry now. Yep, I think the outcome is more important than whether or not a player expresses displeasure during the process.

The question was never was if the Bears would pay Hester, the question is, what market do you use for him? You obviously CANNOT use the WR market to re-sign, cause Hester hasn't proven he is an NFL reciever, but offering him PR/KR is a severe insult. It wouldn't surprise me, if the two sides agree on a short extension (say 2 yrs), and if Hester shows he can be a WR, then they would renegotiate the contract to better suit the WR market.

does/did PacMan Jones play WR or CB, or was he purely a returner?

The amiguity has to be a problem, true. But didn't Lovie & Turner both say they thought Hester had #1 WR potential? That will probably make its way into the negotiation somewhere.

Pacman is a corner. He was turning into a very good one right in the last 8 games of his 2nd year, after the 1st year where his only real value was as a returner.

Rumor has it (Mike Mulligan) that Hester's agent started negotiating near Berrian's contract. That's a touch high for Hester.

I was thinking closer to what Antwaan Randle El got, if he had to get a good contract. But I still think a pay raise over what he currently makes, with the understanding that if he performs as a WR, then a renegotiating of his contract would take place would benefit all parties involved.

I had to defend the Bears at work this week. Everybody thought the Bears were stupid because Hester wasn't signed long-term yet. I got all the "he's their only way of scoring points". People don't realize that Hester has only played 2 years. He hasn't been a factor on anything but special teams until last year when the season when the season was no longer in doubt. I think it is more to Hester's benefit to be in camp than it is to the Bears. Hester wants to be paid like a #1 WR. Yeah, the Bears want him in that role, but if he isn't it's not like they don't have other options. I defended the Bears and told everyone that a 455K/year player wouldn't hold out for long at 15K/day.

I think there are 2 PUP lists. The one now means they can come back at anytime. The next one is when the season begins, at which point he'd have to sit 6 games.
That's right. What I don't agree with is that players have to be on the in-season PUP list before the first game; nobody can be added to that list after the season starts. So if a player gets hurt in, say, the second game and is expected to have to miss 6 weeks he either has to remain on the roster for those 6 weeks or else be put on IR and miss the rest of the season.

Panthers' single-game tickets went on sale at 10:00 this morning. I completed my purchase of a ticket for the Sept. 14 Bears at Panthers game by 10:02. \:D/

What other options do the Bears have? There's a mix of young guys, a special teams superduperstar, and middling veterans. Whatever good options the Bears have is directly a result of the NFL's salary cap structure and nothing they've done. It's not like they have a quarterback who is going to disguise weaknesses in the WR corps either.
