Grossman and Orton will be implementing a new system of calling plays in the huddle. Instead of deciding which receiver to throw to based on the game situation, they'll flip a coin to make it fair.

Seriously, what is the big deal about the coin toss? They did the same thing in minicamp and nobody seemed to care then. It's just a way to decide who practices which day.

They're still going to switch off every other day with the 1's and get the same amount of reps. It means nothing, and it's a waste of time to even discuss it.

"Grossman back to pass, he pulls out his trusty buffalo nickel and flips it in the air. It's heads! Grossman tosses it to Booker, and its picked off"

Come on, the coin flip is a non-story.

Devin Hester is officially holding out and has been placed on the reserve/did not report list (that being the case, they haven't had to cut anyone in light of the Williams signing).

Kruetz is on the PUP list to start camp with an achilles injury (ugh).

Tillman is excused with family issues.

Dusty D. on the NFI list with a calf injury of some kind.

Tried to catch all of it but I think I missed some other tidbits.

Doesn't PUP mean he can't participate in games until the regular season? Or am I way off base?

I'm not sure.

But I think Kevin Jones is on it too.

Trib[/url]"]4 p.m.: The Bears announced some roster moves in the middle of their first practice. They placed four players on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list: Olin Kreutz (Achilles heal), Kevin Jones (knee), Dusty Dvoracek (calf) and Chester Adams (stomach). Those players can come off the list at any point during training camp.

Also, the Bears put holdout Devin Hester on the NFL reserve-did not report list. They will not have to cut a player to make the 80-man roster limit after Chris Williams' signing until Hester reports.

General manager Jerry Angelo will address the Hester situation after practice.

........

Each day of his holdout will cost him about $15,000.

I think there are 2 PUP lists. The one now means they can come back at anytime. The next one is when the season begins, at which point he'd have to sit 6 games.

Hester sitting out is annoying, but understandable. He's outperformed his contract possibly more than any player in the league. I hope he gets signed, but not to #1 receiver money.

But why the hell is ESPNnews saying Bears CB Devin Hester? He hasn't been a CB in a very long time.

Just trying to introduce a little humor to the thread, that's all.

If Olin is any kind of hurt, there goes the OL (and Olin has been regressing).

And Dusty better stay healthy.

I'm not going to worry about it yet. There's always a few players that don't participate in TC practices for one reason or another. If something persists, then I'll begin to throw some concern its way.

I think he's still listed as a CB, not a WR on the Bears depth chart.

Hester speaks

"I'm not coming,'' he said by phone. "I have to make a statement. I showed by going to [organized team activities] that I was a team player. But then, I just felt like they weren't taking it seriously that I wanted to get a new deal.

"I can't go out and play this year making $445,000. Come on, man.'

Probably my favorite night in my sports watching life (conference championship night) edging out IU coming back against Duke and a couple memorable Pacers games along the way (with so many last second shots, it's hard to choose). The Cubs have had some awesome moments, but haven't quite had that one absolutely memorable one quite yet (and it doesn't necessarily have to come in the WS, as the others on my list show).

Sorry, I'm off track reminiscing. I came in to say good luck to the Bears this year. I hope to be there for the Bears-Colts game in a month. Until then, let's not have the injury bug hit either one of our squads more than it already has. If your team is mediocre or climbs back into excellence, try to enjoy the ride. You have a lot of players that are very fun to watch.

I honestly don't remember what I did for the entire 4th quarter and postgame. My friends tell me that I just sat there on the couch saying "I can't believe we did it.....super bowl....i can't believe we did it....wow....super bowl" for like an hour.

And the Bears mean maybe half as much as the Cubs do to me (although its still an awful lot...the Cubs are just below God and family for me :))

I jumped so high during that game (I was drunk and it was a lower ceiling) at one point that I hit my head on the ceiling.

Same thing almost happened when Hester ran the opening kickoff back two weeks later.

That day at the time was the best day of my life. However, in retrospect it brought upon the single worst experience of my life. I'm not an emotional man but I wept following that experience, just as I wept in 2003.

lol at Hester holding out when he was already in negotiations for a contract.

He's only making 445k this year. At 15k a day, a ten day hold out would lose him over 1/3 of his football salary for this year.

Ouch.

Which is why, I expect the agent and his family to gently push him into ending this "holdout". The problem with Hester is that how you do you pay him? You can't pay him market value for a WR (cause he hasn't produced as a WR), but you can't pay him as a typical PR/KR cause that would be an insult. This will be one tricky negotiation (one in which Justin Cribbs of Cleveland will be watching very carefully, seeing as he is the 2nd best KR/PR in the game).

If the Bears don't want to pay him number one receiver money, they shouldn't have said in the offseason that he was their number one. With that said, being a number one Bears receiver isn't worth much!

I know he is a really good kick returner and will be a WR some again this year but, Hester Grow Up.

My god, "I have to make a statement"?
