I love that I get it in my expanded basic package. I don't get either the NFL Network or ESPNews with my package, but I get free baseball and baseball-related programming 24/7/365. My wife is thrilled.

Although I'm a little dissapointed they're showing Don Larsen's perfect game about 5 times in 2 days. But, I don't think everything can be "original programming". The network format won't allow it.

Are y'all excited about the long awaited arrival of the MLB Network, like I am? I have waited a long time for a network like this one. Tonight they are going to rebroadcast Larsen's perfect game --I can't wait. On Direct TV, it's on channel 213.

yeah, I think it will be great especially in the off season. hey billy, haven't seen a post from you in a while. how's your health?

I would be looking forward to it, except that I'm a Dish Network subscriber and probably have little chance of seeing the new channel added...

the beauty of DirecTV is that for the 4+ years I've had it, I've never had to deal with the channel controversies. Big Ten Network, NFL Network, MLB.....all part of the standard lineup.

DirecTV >>>>>>>>>> Dish when it comes to sports. No comparison.

I can't deny that, but I'm extremely hesistant to switch to Direct TV and give up my dual-tuner 622 receiver. Dish Network's superior equipment is really the only thing they have going for them.

i'll take the programming over the equipment, especially since the latest firmware updates have made the DirecTV HD DVR pretty decent

It was full of bugs when they first replaced the TiVO receivers with their own, but it seems like they've fixed the issues.

I definitely agree that the programming is more important than the equipment.

I want to thank Dish Network for not placating its customers by giving them a channel that everyone else has and many want. Way to stick it to the man Dish Netwokr! :banghead:

Hey Oscar, thanks for asking. Cancer reoccurred in my liver so I'm having to undergo chemo treatment once again. But it's okay --with God's help I'll lick this round of cancer as well. Please keep me in your prayers.

On another subject, just got done watching a highlight video of the 2004 World Series when the Red Sox beat the Cards. Sure wish it could of been the Cubs.

A couple of Cubs-related programs coming up. On Sunday, Jan. 11 (8:00 P.M. Eastern time) the Cubs-Pirates game from April 21, 1991 will be shown (final score, 13-12)

with the Pirates winning.

And on Wednesday, Jan. 28 (11:30 P.M. Eastern time) are highlights from the 1945 World Series (the Cubs' last appearance in the Series).

After a full day of watching, I enjoyed the Inside the Game shows and the Hot Stove Live show, even if the people on there say some stupid things, i.e. Jack Morris = best free agency signing of all time. Nice try, Barry Larkin.

I was particularly displeased by the amount of Red Sox programming already on the network though, but whatever. Gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelette.

I hope in the future they intend on getting the rights to show baseball related movies. I can't even remember the last baseball film I actually saw that I truly disliked.

I don't know about movies, but they are going to show the Ken Burns Baseball documentary that originally aired on PBS. They're showing one inning per week on Tuesday evenings, beginning this upcoming week.

Interesting story about Don Larsen's trip to New York and back home so he could tape the commentary accompanying the telecast of his World Series perfect game.

larsen seems like a bitter old dick. there was an espn story about him when he came to feller's museum in iowa and he came off like an a-hole in that story too.

Is anyone getting the MLB Network in HD?

And out of curiosity, how many HD channels is DirecTV offering these days? I don't have designs on changing my current status, just wondering how well my cable company is keeping up with the times.

I'd say that I'm currently getting between 60-70 HD channels right now.

I also wonder how soon we can expect HD MLB EI?

I have both MLB Network and Extra Innings in HD, along with most of the major networks. The only cable stations I can think of that aren't in HD (that I watch) are Comedy Central, E!, The Travel Channel, Headline News, MSNBC, ESPN Classic, Noggin, MTV2 and G4.

I put this on for a few minutes this past weekend. They were showing some Red Sox documentary and I saw the intro. I turned the channel, then went back about 15 minutes later, they were showing a black screen with white writing showing the title of the show, duration and that type of info, then restarted the documentary. Either it was a 15 minute show they re-aired repeatedly, or it was a glitch.

I don't really care for all that old-timey stuff though. I'm interested in watching once the game begin.
