They also want Ray Durham and Jack Taschner from San Fran. They seem to have no site of the fact that they can either keep their farmo system in tact and be legit contenders for years to come or gather up a bunch of rent-a-players in persuit of making this their year. Hopefully Hendry can foil their plans.

The Brewers wouldn't have to trade any more of their top prospects for Marte, Durham, or Taschner. Though, I think SF could possibly get Rickie Weeks out of them.

Im surprised that their not offering JJ Hardy or Alcides Escobar to the Dodgers who are reportedly desperate enough for a SS that they're considering trading Matt Kemp for Jack Wilson.

Ronny Cedeno for Kemp, please.

The Dodgers wouldn't part with Kemp for CC, I'd be shocked if they'd be willing to dangle him for Jack Wilson.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but this is the clipping from mlbtraderumors.com. I dont know how reliable they are.

Perrotto wrote that Wilson is the Dodgers' primary trade target. He says "a Dodgers source indicated that Los Angeles might be willing to deal center fielder Matt Kemp." A Kemp acquisition would create a logjam until the Pirates are able to move Jason Bay or Xavier Nady. Failing that, Perrotto's sources indicate the Bucs have interest in pitcher James McDonald and shortstop Chin-lung Hu.

They still have Mat Gamel, Alcides Escobar, Jeremy Jeffress, Angel Salome, their huge haul from this years draft, and will be getting 4 top draft picks for Sheets and Sabathia after this season. And there's still talk that they might trade Fielder in the offseason for a huge haul... which they could do if they just wanted to move Gamel to first (a move he probably needs anyways).

I don't think they have to worry too much about the farm running dry in the next few years.

The Brewers do have the chips to still make deals. The only question is do they need to save some of those to make deals to replace Sheets and Sabathia when or if they depart.

But with Gamel, Escobar, Salome, Gillespie, Brantley and others, they could still probably pull off a few more deals.

Agreed. However, some of these players they are after aren't very scare worthy, and are arguably not as good as the players they would be trading, IMO.

I think they need to save some of their chips to trade for a front end starter. If they don't add another 1-2 pitcher after this year, they're not going to sniff the playoffs in 2009 (assuming Sheets leaves, which is probable).

according SI's tom verducci on the score.

Marte is terrible in pressure situations and was a mess for the White Sox in August and September in 2005.

Games 23

Innings 12.2

ERA 6.39

BB 10

KO 16

OPS allowed .880

Also, WTH do the Brewers need Marte for? Shouse and Stetter should be fine. It's Gagne/Mota that are the problem.

Torres will likely fade as well. I wonder if the Crew would nab Marte and make him their closer?

We can only pray they do.

Just wondering: Who would Pittsburgh use as their closer? Grabow? Romulo? Yates?

Matt Capps is their closer.

Not while he's on the DL.
