If only Carlton Reed could get another medical redshirt year we would have former Hawkeyes at 4 MVC schools. That is assuming Peterson goes to Missouri State.

Jake is going to tear up the MVC. I don't know what else Indiana State has but if they can put anything around him he should turn them around in his two years.

Remember '06 when we had a great season and were a 3 seed? And then got bounced in the first round on a buzzer beater after a sickening collapse? And on top of that we got to watch a former Hawkeye (and top 50-75 recruit) Marcellus Sommerville lead Bradley to the Sweet 16 as a 13 seed while we were at home? The guy (him or Pierre Pierce) who could have been the one athlete/missing piece that may have made that a Final 4 caliber team? Remember that?

Yeah that's probably going to happen again. Except this time we'll be watching from home in the NIT thinking Jake was the guy who would have gotten us in the tournament.

I'm gonna go dig a hole, sit in it and cry now.

we are like indiana of last year, except with no hope for the future.

I think I'm going to become a more avid follower of College Wrestling.

I think I'm going to become a more avid follower of College Wrestling.

there is room on the bandwagon. last year there was more fans at the average wrestling meet than basketball game. next year, there will be more paid attendance for wrestling than bball.

Asked about how he feels about all the judgment he's facing after posing a 40-27 record in two seasons at Kentucky, Gillispie said: "There's only one judgment I'll ever be concerned about, and I hope I pass that judgment. That's the only one I'll ever be concerned about, and I'm really proud that that's the only judgment that will ever have a real effect on me, and I hope I pass that one with flying colors." Gillispie declined to answer when asked whose judgment he was referring to, saying it was obvious, apparently referring to Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart.

B.J. Mullens to enter NBA draft. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4018578

Someone on here suggested earlier that "everyone" will be back in the Big Ten. I always laugh at people looking only at class/eligibility. He won't be the only player to leave early.

Time for me to start this year's NBA Draft thread already, eh?

Malik Story to transfer from IU. http://www.insidethehall.com/2009/03/26/report-malik-story-decides-to-transfer/

This clears up Indiana's scholarship situation for the time being. However, they are still recruiting Darius Smith and will possibly have another ride open up.

He was always the most likely of the possible transfers. He has talent, but he always struck me as being more happy as a possible star in a more wide open system. He was always going to be an energy guy for IU that played a lot in some games and not at all in others. I wish him well. He apparently was a very hard worker.

The only thing I'm worried about is that it hurts IU's shaky APR even further, but if that's the only point lost from this entire year (or maybe 1 more if somebody else transfers) it won't be too bad.

Didn't the 12 you banked this year cover the next decade or so?

Assuming JJ comes back and considering Purdue was preseason 10/11 this year I'm thinking Purdue will likely be preseason top 5 next year. All five starters for the second straight year, 6 of our 8 main rotation guys and the top six minute earners all come back.

can't wait to hear matta bitch about the one and done players.

This is also partially why Ohio State will likely never be as good as the sum of their parts (unless they change their modus operandi -- which it seems they aren't). Of course, they'll still be good because of talent. And perhaps they have another Oden-Conley, Jr. super-class, but those don't come around too often. It's hard to build a team around one-and-done's. Here's betting Evan Turner leaves early too (though they have squeezed two years out of him so far).

Coach Thad Matta said in a statement that he was "saddened" to lose Mullens.

"On one hand, I feel another year in school would have allowed him to develop into the player I know he can be, and an additional season would have been beneficial to him both personally and monetarily in the long run," Matta said.

"On the other hand, I am empathetic to the reasons why he has chosen to leave at such an early point in his career. I wish him nothing but the best and know he will always be a part of our basketball family at Ohio State."

Also, Columbus Dispatch sports editor isn't losing sleep over this

How to say this without being too insulting? The 7-foot freshman didn't contribute much in his one season with the Buckeyes. He showed some promise, had a few brief stretches of "wow" and that's it. He didn't start and averaged only 20 minutes of playing time, not because he was being punished, but because that's what he earned. He's not much more ready for the NBA than I am, and I'm older than his mother and stand 5 feet 5 with my shoes on.

That confirms that the sports editor of the Columbus Dispatch is a moron. Mullens may not have lived up to the hype of Rival's No. 1 recruit, but he was mostly an effective, positive player for the Buckeyes. He was also likely to be much, much improved next season. This is a big loss for Ohio State. The only returning interior player they have is the limited Dallas Lauderdale and they have zero incoming recruits (though a great class for 2010 is on the way). The Buckeyes will have a nice set of swingmen regardless of Evan Turner's decision, but they will struggle in the paint and at the point.
