I feel like I'm the only insane person picking Stephen F. Austin over Syracuse. I just don't trust Syracuse for some reason.

I don't either, but I don't distrust them THAT much. I have them in the 16, but only because I have Temple beating ASU.

Because they choked their way out of the last 2 NCAA tourneys and lost as a 4/5 seed in the previous 2, maybe? :)

could someone recap mich state's injury situation this season? are they healthy now?

Goran Suton was out for the early part of the schedule, including the UNC and Maryland losses. Raymar Morgan was out during the middle of the Big Ten season, which included the PSU and Northwestern losses. They are allegedly healthy now.

Who was out for the Morgan St. loss?

The entire team, I guess, since they didn't have Morgan St. on the schedule.

Probably somebody on Maryland. Or some other team that actually lost to them.

really? i've got them beating oklahoma/clemson (no faith in ou at all, they've sucked down the stretch), but then losing to unc. although the sooner syracuse is out, the less we hear about the 6ot game, which of course will be a great thing.

I always trick myself into picking Syracuse. I always think their zone will mess with teams. I did it again this year I think. I'm stupid.

Can someone briefly explain the Ken Pomeroy or Sagarin systems to me.

briefly? I think they're so complicated that Pomeroy and Sagarin couldn't even explain it briefly. :-))

They are rankings done on the sport of basketball at the American, Division 1, collegiate level.

would i be able to find them easily/free and are they good indicator of who is going to win. I have been on a real cold streak the last few years looking for anything that will help lol.

Bruce Weber was on WSCR this morning and said Frazier will see the Dr tomorrow, and if he can catch and pass will probably play around 10-15 mins of the game, depending on how his hand feels Thurs evening. He may just be saying it, but he definately wasnt ruling Frazier out.

Pomeroy is based on points per possession, which is used over ppg because it adjusts for the different pace teams have (i.e. VMI isn't the best offense in the country just because they score the most points, they score the most points because they play really fast). It takes the offensive and defensive points per possession, adjusts for opponent and some other things, and uses those adjusted values to calculate a pythag winning percentage, similar to baseball. Look here for a full explanation.

Sagarin takes the result and margin of victory of each game into account and comes up with a power ranking. The formula isn't public, so I can't help you much more than that. Use the predictor ratings for the most accurate results.

If you want the best indicator of who will win though, I'd just take whoever the Vegas favorite is.

Dickie V's Elite 8 picks consist of all #1 and #2 seeds except Syracuse. His Final 4 is all #1 seeds. What a joke.

am I just being crazy/biased against Unc or does anyone else think Gonzaga or even Syracuse have a good shot of beating them. I have the zags beating them at the moment but i have been burned by them a couple times so I am not sure.

I wouldn't have UNC in the Elite 8 in any other region. But they drew, in my opinion, the weakest region by far. I don't think anyone besides Oklahoma in that region can beat them unless something abnormal happens.

If Lawson's healthy, they should make the Final Four.

If not, they might not even make it to the Elite Eight.

isn't gonzaga playing there first 2 games in Washington? I don't really see how Akron or ill/wku is going to beat them before they get to UNC. I have faith in them getting to that game and but if Lawson is healthy I could easily see UNC dominating them but if hes not healthy i could easily see them losing to UNC its the game I am currently torn the most on at the moment.

Gonzaga sucks.

If Mizzou drew any of the other 14 seeds, I think I'd have them losing. Same with Gonzaga and the 13s and Utah and the 12s. What an awful year for first round upsets.

the only upset anyone has in the first round is a team that lost by 30 to murray state beating illinois.
