SSR, why do you think Texas A&M is underrated? They aren't that good. They needed to beat OU at home on Saturday and trailed that whole game. Their non-conference schedule was full of lowly rated teams.

Beat decent Baylor and Arizona teams. Beat an okayish LSU team. No bad losses. I'm not saying they should be ranked, but they didn't receive a single vote in either poll.

Something else odd that I just noticed from Pomeroy's stats: Illinois leads the nation in A/FG ratio, by far. They're more than 3% higher than team #2.

Syracuse/Pitt is the latest game of the year in the Big East tonight. I'll be checking it out - I haven't seen much of either team yet.

I noticed earlier this week but I've been out of town so I didn't get it posted. I'm a bit surprised Purdue is #1 in effective FG% defense. I figured they could be at the top this season but with Kramer and Hummel missing at times I expected to be just in the top 10.

They're not looking so good tonight. Assuming KU can hold on tonight, aTm is really gonna need a win against UT.

Their shooting has been horrendous. KU's defense deserves credit, but man, they look bad.

I don't how Florida could be underrated, yet UK doesn't deserve to be in the top 25. Who has UF defeated worth a lick?

It's not like Kentucky is teeing off on great teams either. UK's beaten decent West Virginia and Tennessee teams and not much else in terms of wins. Their losses are a close one at home to a bubblish Miami team, a blowout loss at UNC, a tight one at a damn good Louisville team, and an embarrassing home loss to VMI.

Florida has beaten a decent Washington team(whose resume looks a lot like UK's) and not much else. Their losses are a close one to a damn good Syracuse team and a close one on the road to a bubblish FSU team.

Say you write off the UNC loss, cause that's expected of most teams. That leaves an advantage to Florida for their bubble loss being on the road compared to home. Give UK a slight edge back with their 2nd good win. Then you've got the VMI loss. It's a killer for me. I know it's a one time thing, and play it 10 more times(especially this deep in the season) and UK wins 9 or 10 of em. But I think rankings should be off of what you've done, not what you'd do today.

I want some non-Purdue fan, not biased opinions. Say Purdue loses four more conference games to finish 23-8, 12-6 and the four loses are from the @Minn, @Wis, @MSU, MSU, @Illinois, @OSU or @Mich games what ... what seed would project them to get heading into the conference tournaments. Obviously you don't know what anyone else did but on the average year what seed?

I have a hard time not seeing that as a 3 or 4 seed, with the four most likely. That gives them 5-6 top 100 RPI wins and zero RPI 101+ losses. So they would have quite a few good wins and no bad losses. I would say heading into the conference tournament they would be a four seed as long as they don't get upset first game and 3 seed if they win it.

Florida is extremely overrated right now to be ranked at all. UK has the best SEC resume already, and they're a borderline top 25 team. Nobody else in the SEC is even that close.

That would put Purdue at the same record as last season with a 1-1 BTT showing. That was good for a 6 seed in a worse Big Ten. As far as the breakdown from last year, they had 4 sub 100 losses, but they had 3 top 25 RPI wins and finished the year hot. Additionally, they placed 2nd in the conference. Those 2-8 teams are really close in the Big Ten, but 12-6 still isn't likely to do much better than 4th. I don't see 4 Big Ten teams getting protected seeds, but I haven't really looked too deep into who would be grabbing them so I could be off. Gun to my head I say a 5.

No matter how good the Big Ten is, 12-6 ain't getting you a 4. ND was 14-4 last year in a very good Big East and got a 5. If they played well in the Big Ten tourney and played ok in all those four more losses, a 4 is a possibility, but even then I'd be very surprised.

Dang it. I was hoping for some kind words so I don't have to face the facts that Purdue didn't just shoot themselves in the foot the first two games they took a bazooka to it.

I will say though if we finish with a similar record to last year we will have a higher seed than in 2007-08. We have a slightly stronger schedule this year and not having the bad losses tends to help a lot in the selection process.

Hey we still could win a few of those games and finish 25-6 or something with 1-1 in the Big Ten Tourney. I'm thinking will get a 4-6seed though

I think we will finish 24-7 with losses @MSU, @Minn and then one of @Mich, @OSU. We would be 13-5 and finish 2nd or 3rd.

Any of you fine gentlemen have any insight on the UI-OSU matchup tonight? I really know very little about OSU's team this year other than they have another highly thought of Freshman big man and Matta seems to be a good coach.

If Illinois is going to have any hopes of challenging MSU for the conference title, they have to hold serve at home and win twice this week. If they can, they'll be fully established as a legitimate threat in the conference.

They're inconsistent without Lighty. Evan Turner is a stud. BJ Mullens (#1 recruit in '08 class) has not done much of anything. Lauderdale is the big man to worry about. Tis is probably gonna get abused on the boards again.

Illinois: 71

OSU: 58

ETA: Forget what I said about Mullens, he's got double digits in each of his last 4 games.
