Thanks for the phantom foul call against us on the turnover to send Purdue to the line for the easy win.

He called it on the dude defending in the post who gave a little shove to the back before the ball arrived. The only problem with that was he waited to call it a full second and a half later once Moore came down and stripped the ball. Weak.

Chris Kramer is such a tool. The way they react after every foul is so annoying. If you want to play that style of defense, great. Just realize that you could be called for a foul every possession. Usually at least 2 guys.

Kramer is definitely in the annoying grinder mold.

That would have been at least two seconds. The foul was Ryan putting his arm on his back without pushing off or even holding back an advance to the basket. There wasn't a foul. Combine that with the "intentional foul" called on Ryan earlier and I don't know what they were calling him for.

5 or 6 straight trips to the line with just one made FT to end the game and countless blown chances at the basket from start to finish. This is getting really old.

plus it looked to me like the second defender got him across the wrists. i think it was a good call. they called way too many off-the-ball fouls but whatever, northwestern shouldn't have been playing basketball's version of prevent D for the last 8 minutes of the game.

Did nobody watch the Minnesota/Wisconsin game? It was great.

I can't remember seeing a Wisconsin team make so many mental errors and struggle with the press like they did down the stretch. They even got bailed out (like usual) with some weak foul calls in the last 3-4 minutes.

Westbrook just took that thing over.

There is nothing like blowing out Arizona. UCLA has now defeated Arizona 8 straight times. :)

That was a horrible call.

UCD picked up a rare road win (6-46 now since start of 05-06) and first win over a BW team since Jan. 2007 with tonight's 85-74 win over Fullerton. I really think this team has a shot at making the tournament if they continue to play like this. I've got them as the third-best team in the league behind Long Beach and Pacific, though they just lost to Irvine tonight.

Now watch them lay an egg against Irvine on Saturday, which would be typical UCD.

intentional foul? there's another ed hightower special.

I didn't agree with the call until I saw the replay. The first swipe the kid took was at the ball. The next swipe was at Kramer's shoulder, and the third one was at the back of Kramer's head as he was going down. I think if the defender would have stopped after the first (and possibly second) swipe, it might not have been an intentional foul.

Regardless, Purdue played like crap and did not deserve to win that game.

By the way, can Ted Valentine just go away? How does he still have a job officiating college games? I'm not claiming he did anything bad against Purdue last night, just that he's a horrible official in general.

That was a good call. The defender shoved Johnson in the back with his forearm. There are plenty of calls to complain about from Northwestern's perspective, but that wasn't one of them.

They were calling way to many off the ball fouls on both teams and that last one was what they were calling on us all game...He definitely forearmed him to try to get him father out....We looked bad though and Northwestern took care of the ball....Also Kramer has become a little B when it comes to getting fouled, but I have to say he finishes every layup when he fouled

Ah, Valentine. He was the one that called a blocking foul on Colin Falls on a key possession against Winthrop in the 2007 tourney when ND's offense was already past halfcourt on the other end. Memories...

I've been complaining about him since I was 9-10 years old. I can still remember my grandpa telling me, "Now watch this ref. He's awful and is going to make a bunch of sh**y calls." He did a Ball State game last year and during the pregame I told the PBP guy to watch him because at some point he will make a series of bad calls. Valentine like always came through.

You don't want to get IU fans started on Ted Valentine.

Don't think Bobby should have gotten tossed for checking to see if his player was dead under the basket, eh? I will always remember that as perhaps the worst call ever in college basketball history. And I'm an Illinois fan.

Oh, I know. I witnessed a few of his verbal altercations with Knight first-hand. Even as a Purdue fan, I can admit that Valentine wasn't exactly objective when it came to reffing games where Knight was involved.

That was merely the culmination. The nadir was the 1992 Final Four game against Duke.

Since nothing is going on at work today because nobody wants to do anything in this weather, I decided to run a "halfway point" bracket, based strictly on Pomeroy ratings (which essentially measures the efficiency of a team's offense and defense and extrapolates a pythagorean winning percentage based on the difference). So, based solely on how efficient teams are to decide both conference winners and at-larges, here's what the bracket will look like (conference winners with conference in parentheses):

SOUTH

1 Duke (ACC)

Take it all with a grain of salt, I was pretty bored. But Pomeroy is generally a good representation of how well a team has played overall to this point. Probably not how it'll finish out the year (hey, if I did this 2 weeks ago, Northwestern's probably a 6 seed), but just an idea of where teams are at the halfway point with no personal bias included.
