Don't forget you can watch Boise home games (such as today's) live here.

Idaho Statesman story on Josh Vitters:

"This past year, there's been a lot of ups and downs, just being drafted so high and starting out a little slow because I didn't play since my high school season," he said. "So that brought me down a little bit I guess. I'm definitely ready to go this season and have a good season."

Vitters has not been told how long he'll play in Boise. Cubs management wouldn't say so, either. But one thing is for sure, the Cubs are very high on the 18-year-old.

"He's got tons of ability," Cubs farm director Oneri Fleita said. "He's got great hands, he's got great bat speed and all the ability in the world to play third base and be an impact player."

...

"After he signed he was in Arizona and he's facing these guys 24- and 25-years-old throwing 95 (mph) and he was like, 'I can't handle it,' " Cypress High baseball coach John Weber said.

But Weber, who has coached five players who eventually played in the major leagues, said if there's one player who will make it, it's Vitters.

"I've been around some pretty good players," Weber said. "It's absolutely different. There's some special things in his bat that you don't see on a day-to-day basis.

"He's a guy that I think is going to be able to hit 30 jacks in the big leagues and still compete for a batting title. He's a pretty special player."

Hill may not be pitching today, but abuck does have a reason to make his way to PP:

so why isn't hill pitching?

and a soto statue is long overdue, that's for sure.

Sadly, it's not the mega-shrine that you have in mind.

There really hasn't been anything publicly said about Hill. I think allowing him to have more work on the side is probably the correct explanation as to why his start was pushed back until tomorrow.

Pie is 1-3 with a double. Berg got rocked, giving up 10 earned runs on 10 hits and 4 walks. Jesse Estrada has been great in his AAA debut, pitching 3 scoreless innings in relief on 1 hit and 5 strikeouts.

Boise leads 5-0 in the 5th. Hatley went 4 scoreless on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts. Vitters is 0-2 with an RBI and walk. Keedy is 3-3.

Things are going well for Boise early. Hatley had 4 scoreless and 5 Ks. Kyler Burke hit a home run. Keedy and Harrison both have doubles.

Daytona put up a valiant fight and lost 8-7.

Tennessee mauled Mobile 13-0. Veal and Ceda had great outings.

Iowa is getting their butts kicked. Pie is having a good day (2/4 with a double), but Berg got walloped.

Veal's final line: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 10-5 GO-FO

There's a lot to like with that performance.

Interesting. It sure would be nice if he could recapture some of the art he had before last year. Ceda had another great outing too (as OO mentioned).

Those poor baby Baybears having to face Veal and Ceda when they are on. That sucks for any minor leaguer. Veal with a pretty good K rate in the game, and 2:1 GB ratio.

No Cubs took part in either game of a doubleheader at the MLB Australian Academy on Tuesday.

I didn't realize Muyco was a pitcher now, he's in the game in the 8th, 5-5 the score.

Retired all five batters he faced.

On a different note, Boise sure is ahead of the curve offering life video of all their games!

Opitz, who hit the walk-off HR for Boise, came in to the game for starting 2B Josh Harrison who twisted his ankle running the bases. Harrison is likely out for tonight's game too.

Looks like the minor leagues need to get into the "21st century" and have pinch runners for every batter.

Seriously though, that's too bad for him in his first professional game. I'm sure it makes him feel a little bit better that his replacement got to have the thrill of a walkoff homerun in his first major league at bat though.
