To review, MLB, which hoards old clips like Scrooge [expletive] McDuck, just released a zillion beauties from the 80s & 90s. See you all in 2017.

not a fan of the red and blue

too loud

I agree. It looks like a Fourth of July display.

After just watching the Glenallen homer, I spent a moment thinking this was reliving the lively shoe debate between Chip and Stoney.

Kind of cool... in the pics that JR posted, you can see them taking down this sign.

Actually, that was the back of the old CF scoreboard which had been hacked up and sloppily thrown together in LF for the duration of the bleacher construction. You can see it in this postcard (note the unfinished new CF scoreboard:)

I'd rather have the red marquee with the lower walls blue.

Yeah, that would be perfect.

On the one hand, that's ugly. On the other, I've never seen a picture from the 70s that wasn't ugly.

Just randomly came across this badass season from Eric Davis. If he had played a full season it looks like he would have been the only 40-50 guy in history.

1987: 129 games, 120 runs, 37 HR, 100 RBI, 50 SB/6 CS, .293/.399/.593, 155 OPS+, 7.7 WAR

god dammit i want the cubs to be relevant again

That Aramis '07 walk off really hits that home, those two years were so great (minus October)

Haha that picture was on my desktop for years, too.

I remember I was at work and watching gameday on the computer. I saw that the pitch showed up in that location to Ramirez and I knew before I even read "in play (runs)" that it was gone. Good times. Great calls by both Len and Pat, too.

Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company, Too Close for Comfort and Hart to Hart.

A big slice of my childhood was preempted for this one.

It's a shame that Keith Jackson's football duties caused him to be pulled from the playoffs. Seems he was a very underrated baseball announcer.

ABC could never get any kind of ratings with regular season baseball in the 70s/80s. Which is probably why Jackson is never thought of as a baseball guy. They also had guys like Uecker, Cosell, Palmer, Reggie Jackson and Don Drysdale. Not sure why that group of guys couldn't garner any kind of ratings

As I recall, ABC always had the weeknight games (Monday Night Baseball, Thursday Night Baseball) and NBC had the Saturday Game of the Week. The very same production team that made Monday Night Football into an event never really made a dent with the comparable baseball series and it wasn't a factor when the baseball TV world was turned upside down with the 1990 contract (CBS, ESPN.)

I was spoiled pre-1990 - seemingly every big game was called by either Vin Scully, Bob Costas or Al Michaels.
