The ironic point of Soriano missing any time is there's a good chance it'll improve the Cub lineup. Be it Hoffpauir or Murton they'll bring more OBP to the lineup and it certainly won't hurt.

No it won't.

They're inferior to Soriano. Adding inferior players to your lineup doesn't help.

No it won't.

Murton's power numbers in AAA are actually pretty sad.

And Soriano's numbers have been awesome since the beginning of May. No chance in hell Murton or Hoffpauir match Soriano's production.

I'd *love* to see someone study the relationship between pitchers working fast and defense behind them.

It's one of those widely accepted truths that's never really been tested.

I'd think it would be tough. I guess you would have to define fast and then see how many errors are committed. Actually that isn't going to give you much info but it is a start.

It'd be interesting, but sadly impossible to test such a thing.

Is it too early to say that the Wild Card will come out of the NL Central? At this point, I really can't see anyone else putting up a fight. It will probably be between the Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers for 2 playoff spots.

This is thinking really far ahead and making a lot of assumptions, but hey, I don't care... the Cubs should pray that wild card comes out of the Central. If it does, they'll play the NL West champion, which is sure to be weaker than the wild card winner.

Yes, I know that's thinking way too far ahead.

That's what we though last year, but I really don't want to face Arizona again in a short series.

Anyone else remember that game against the Pirates last year when Zambrano struck out the first guy in 22 seconds?

In the final series of the year? Yeah, he struck out the side IIRC.

All you gotta do is start timing pitchers and then checking defensive efficiency behind them.

Or, as a proxy, it'd be interesting to do a poll of fastest/slowest pitchers and then test the defense behind them.

It wouldn't be easy to study, but the methodology isn't hard.

I really hope dempster can keep this up all year, I'm loving the production we're getting out of him.

I'd just keep him on a short leash and not have the ridiculous 4 starts in a row with 100+ pitches or whatever he went through earlier.

Everytime Mike Fontenot bats, I am reminded of the movie "Rookie of the Year" when Henry is up to bat and the pitcher is yelling "CMON! THE KIDS GOT NO STRIKE ZONE!"

Yeah, the thought of Webb and Haren possibly 4 times isn't very good.

Long way to go though. Its June.

Does anyone still remember when ARam was struggling?

He still hasn't hit a lot of HRs, which I realize is extremely shortsided to base one's performance on. Wonder if the wrist injury is still affecting him, or if he's just waiting for a hot streak.

Thank god Greg Norton isn't playing LF anymore.

That's probably the first time that anyone other than a fan of the team for which Greg Norton plays has ever said that.

It wont help, but it wont be a death blow.
