I admit, the end of 04 was a bit frustrating. My mom had always been a cubs fan, and I casually watched the 03 NLCS (it's a good thing I wasn't really a fan then; I'd be devastated). So I wasn't really too hardcore in 04. But now, I really get into the games, and it's been a great year so far.

It's always good to learn of someone new who has accepted the challenge, hardships, and torture necessary to be a fan of the Cubs.

Welcome to hell!

You don't have to be crazy to be a CUBS fan..... but let me tell you, it sure does help !!!

Hope for the best with this team, but ALWAYS, under EVERY circumstance, expect the worst. It's less painful that way when they rip your heart out.

Numbers vs. Glavine are not bad. But they are amazing if you take out guys who have abotu a 0.00001% chance of batting vs. him tomorrow. Lieber, Dempster and Wood are 2-25 against Glavine. And you are looking at a .298/.377/.511 line. I didn't take out guys who are even remote possibilities to pinch hit against him. But it gets even better if you take out Zambrano, Fontenot, Edmonds, and Marquis.

Off days are so boring. [/sigh]

I know. It seems like about a week on an off day.

At least it's not the offseason, where the next baseball is 5 1/2 months away instead of a day.

I'm a relatively new fan too, just something about the Cubs stuck out, and just seemed like a team that had to be mine.

Thanks :D My account finally got activated, although I've been following these threads. Been a Cubs fan ever since 04!

1904?

Yeah !! Me too !!

Still an Alton Parker fan after all these years!

A second reference to Judge Parker. I don't understand the fascination with him..... I was always more impressed with Colonel Francis Parker..... but, whatever.

I'll keep that in mind the next time the Cubs are up 12-1 in the 9th. I'll be expecting 3 grand slams

We don't get up 12-1 in the 9th. The Cubs never have a team that good.

Honestly, with some of the Cubs teams I've seen, that wouldn't have shocked me much. It seemed like at their worst, they were finding new and creative ways to lose each game.

This year, however, has been very un-Cub-like, but part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I might get flamed for this, and I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but I think a lot of guys have just been playing way over their heads and we're really not this good. Demp has been lucky according to his BABIP. He still walks too many people. Hill stinks this year, Marquis is Marquis, Gallagher has done ok in a sample size. Theriot has no right to be doing this well. We've got a few lightning in a bottle situations, I fear.

Reminder that Derrek Lee's OBP is .337

Some are over their heads some are under their heads, I don't think its really that odd or that we're unnaturally lucky

Amazing what a couple losses and an off day can do to rest the pen. Hart, Lieber, and Eyre all have 3 days rest, and Wuertz hasn't pitched since the Truman administration. How's about we bring back the extra bat now instead of waiting for the DH to get here?

Hopefully we'll blow them out tonight to rest Marmol and Wood.

Of course we all know that's never a guarantee that we don't see Marmol

I agree. I've never been a fan of the expanded pitching staff. I'd rather have a group of relievers on the Iowa-Chicago shuttle, than to send down the extra bat.

Wuertz needs to get back on track. The numbers aren't terrible, but he's had some stinker outing lately.

He's having a down year, I'm hoping he picks up his K rate. His usage has been pretty erratic too. Just recently he had 1 outing in 7 days, then was used 4 straight games, and now has had 6 days off. Maybe giving him a more "routine" role could help jumpstart him, especially since we have Lieber and Hart right now to pitch in long relief.

He seems to have an established role in Lou's mind - 6th inning with a lead or getting out of jams before that. At least, that's when it seems to me he is most often used.

Who would be the extra bat brought back? Murton? Hoffpauir can't be brought back yet, right? What's up with Daryle Ward? Is he close to returning?

I would think Hoffpauir is the most deserving guy to bring back up. How much longer before they can recall him?

The most practical solution would be Patterson. He's on the 40(Kroeger's not), he's hitting well(Pie's not), he's left handed(Murton's not), he's healthy(Ward's not), and he's eligible to be called up(Hoffpauir's not).
