The second of 3 pitching re-matches occurs Friday night. Rookie Sean Gallagher for the Cubs, who has showed some real signs of forcing his way into the rotation, goes up against Hiroki Kuroda. The Japanese media will probably once again be watching intently to see the Kuroda-Fukudome matchup. The Cubs won this matchup last time these starters faced off, so let's hope for another win and a clinch of a winning road trip.

Gallagher in his start against the Dodgers: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

And Kuroda against the Cubs: 6 1/3 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K

So, I guess you're spot starting for New Era. Let's get a new win streak here (if two straight is considered a win streak).

I think this game will really help Lou decide if Gallagher is here to stay in the rotation when/if Hill comes back. Personally, I think he should be ahead of Marquis despite what happens tommorow, but I'm not sure Lou thinks that. However, if Gallagher has a quality start here, the Cubs can't help but keep him as a starter.

Hopefully Friday will be Hiroki Kuroda Bobblehead Doll Night.

win here and we have what some like to call a winning road trip!

I'm not familiar with this term, "winning road trip." Is it another one of these newfangled "stats" that all them people in their parents' basements have come up with?

Why because Matt Capps day we lost and Saito we won? .500 record on opponent pitchers bobblehead day, yeah.

Probably going to be the most telling start of Gallagher's career so far. This is the first team to see him twice. He didn't even face the same team twice in a season (including last year) out of the bullpen. Gallagher pitched well against LA last time out. He didn't face Kent or Martin that day, but Sean has dominated RH hitters this year and only gave up hits to the Dodgers LHs last time out. The key is to continue to get the ground balls, which he's been doing the last 3 times out. And I'm sure Lou would love to get another 7 innings out of him.

Offense has gotta go for the kill. Score early, but then don't stop. Kuroda has proven to fall apart after about 80 pitches, so make him work early and push across a couple and the Cubs could put a good dent in the scoreboard.

Predict the next game where:

-The Cubs win

-Marmol, Howry and Wood don't pitch

So, when's the next time we blow a team out with the starter going at least 7?

DLEE's going yard tonight!

Is one of his grounders going to take a freakish bounce off the pitcher's mound and end up over the wall for a GRD?

so what's the rules? Are my starts over? Or do I start again ones my spot starter's streak is over?

When Fred spot-started for Aramis Fan it was win or lose, Aramis Fan was back in for the next game.

That was my understanding of this particular spot start. You'll start tomorrow's game A New Era no matter what happens tonight. I'll just try to pick up a quick win in between your long win streak :D

I will be landing in Vegas during about the 6th inning of this game. Hopefully I can wait through the cab line, check into my hotel room and get to the sports book before the end of it, but I doubt it.

Edit: Yes this post was just an excuse to brag about going to Vegas.

I suppose if wed opted to keep Hoff around instead of keep 2 inept middle infielders around, wed be able to rest D-Lee. Of course Lou could always try the Blanco experiment again.

If he wants to, he could throw Edmonds over there. He's played a little 1B in the past.

Though that would still give you a crappy matchup against either him or Reed, depending on who's pitching.
