A 4.2 40 will get you noticed in many avenues of sport (track, football, baseball, soccer maybe if you have any endurance). Granted, you have to have other athletic talents, but you'll get a ton of chances if you're that fast.

Most of those things will get you noticed, but hardly any of them guarantee you any sort of success. Running that fast will make it a pretty good bet that you can succeed in track, but I've never been interested in competing in what is essentially practice for other sports.

300+ in golf is fairly meaningless, I've done it and I suck. We had a big fat backup center who could throw the ball almost 80 in high school, it's kind of a meaningless without accuracy and the ability to read defenses. Kicking the ball for distance sounds like you are referring to football place kickers, and again, you have to wonder about accuracy. Lifting a bunch of weight could ensure a nice career as a bouncer or security guard, but I don't know about how it would help in sports.

Throwing 98 still requires accuracy, movement and some sort of durability/stamina to make anything of it, but considering I always had good location and the ability to change speeds, adding that kind of heat to my reportoire would have made it realistic that I could have done something with my pitching career (which ended early and unceremoniously). At the bare minimum you'd get a chance to play professionally, even if you flame out in single A.

Then again, if everything else was the same, being that fast really would have helped in football.

I want a 300 yard drive just because I can't do it now (of course, I've never tried either). That, and the other ones would force me to remain in shape. Screw that noise.

Speed makes up for a lot of things. I woulda picked the 4.2 in the 40.

FYI, I can almost do a few things on that list. Or at least I could almost about 30-40 lbs ago.

Given that I'm fast (4.6 40), have good leaping ability (5'11" and can hang on a regulation-sized rim) and have absolutely no upper body strength, hitting the ball 500 ft would make me a badass CF.

It certainly made Ryan Harvey something special.

HAHA well I wouldn't come up through the Cubs system, duh

I think anyone could hit a ball 500ft. with some luck. If you get one of those 98mph fastballs, you have a relatively quick swing, hit the ball square, and get a little carry and wind....it can go 500ft.

I think it's a bit harder than that.

Screw athletic prospects. I'd love to be able to run that fast just for the heck of it, although a 4' vertical is 2nd on my list.

I'm between the 4.2 and the high vertical.

I really want to be able to dunk with authority. Also, I think running long distance quickly would be cool... finishing a marathon in 2:30 or something would be awesome.

I'm short and slight so no matter how fast I can run (I could run pretty fast in high school), it's not going to make a difference without a lot more. But I've got a strong accurate arm. If I could throw 98, I could learn enough of a change or breaking pitch to at least get a chance at the big leagues. Though I think the ability to hit .350 in the majors (or have a .900 OPS or something) would be my preference, if that were an option.

the best athletic skill to have is great hand-eye coordination.

I have good hand-eye coordination and it makes up for my lack of speed and jumps, it does not take you to the next level though. Combine average hand-eye with 4.2 speed and you'll have a better athlete than elite hand-eye and average speed.

I decided I'd like to throw 98 mph. I'm only 5'8", so the 40 speed would make me fast, but I'd be too small to parlay that into a athletic career by itself. I have small hands, so even with the speed I couldn't be a RB or WR.

With the 98 mph, I'd have somewhat of a shot at making it.
