I just don't understand what Chad Fox was here for. They didn't trust him to throw an inning in a close game unless the bullpen was tired. He couldn't really work on consecutive days. He wasn't really the long man, despite high pitch counts in his outings.

It was the least the Cubs could do after Dusty Baker sawed his arm off at the elbow. This was one of those "Jim Hendry does right by the player" type moves.

Now, let's hope the goodwill is over. He got in a few games, got a nice applause, got a TV story. Now, we should probably pick, you know, the best players to fill out the roster.

That will always be the dream but Hendry, at times, puts how much the players like him ahead of what's best for the club. For example, wasting ABs on McGriff so he could achieve some meaningless record or more recently promoting Eric Patterson so he could appear in the same game as his brother.

I will second Tranny's comment - I hope Lou uses Ascanio liberally.

What's Ascanio's stuff like?

Mid-90s FB (tops out at 97), plus slider, passable change. Hard thrower.

Lemme guess... control issues?

He has 8 walks to his 23 Ks in 21.2 IP so far this year at Iowa. Last year, he walked just 18 in 78.0 IP with 71 Ks at AA.

He has also allowed just 1 HR this year and just 1 all of last season in the minors.

He also walked 6 in 16 innings in Atlanta last year. Not bad control at all. Though, he was hit hard last year.

I think he'll work out fine. Fox was a nice story, but he wasn't really doing anything.

Wow you folks have me really excited for this kid now. Sounds like he could be a real shot in the arm for the BP.

What an awful euphemism to use for a pitching staff.

If that's a euphemism, I'm missing something.

As of now, if we are in a big game I have no idea who I would trust in the 7th inning (besides Marmol for 7th and 8th). Hopefully Ascaino can step up and be a big part of the bullpen.

Finally. When Chad Fox wasn't hurt he was pure garbage. Pack up your bags and say a thank you prayer for collectiong a sweet paycheck for doing absolutly nothing.

Adios bum.

Is this really necessary?

I love sitting by people like this at games. Makes it so enjoyable.

Wuertz? Lieber? Both have been pitching well as of late.

It was entirely unnecessary. I think he would have said the same for Ryan O'Malley.

Who'd we trade from him again? Infante?

Ohman and Infante

That's right. Hopefully this turns out to be a steal. Although Ohman's having a good year with the braves so far.
