He only has six homers and his SLG% is .479. His last homer was April 23rd against Colorado. Since he got hit in the wrist, he's had three extra base hits, which has caused his May SLG% to be only .333.

Not really. The fact that it coincides with the wrist thing makes it slightly more worrisome, but I'll chalk it up to random variance at this point.

He found it hidden in the umpires' locker room about a week ago. Soriano stole it from him and the rest is history.

Unless it turns out his wrist really is the source, no. He had a similar start in 2006, and I think last year, if memory serves me. He's not a 35-40 HR guy. He's a 30 HR guy who will drive in runs. He's fine.

I'm concerned, but not overly so yet. Let's see how he is in a couple weeks. We're still winning ballgames because for the first time in a long while this ballclub has other players who can pick up the slack. We just won a series against the not-so-terrible Bucs and Lee & ARam both did nothing.

I think they'll get pumping, probably just in time for a couple of the other guys to drop off a little. If all goes well, we'll have 3 guys streaking at the same time all year, and hence continue to be a good offense straight through.

makes two of us.

Aram has been the same way for years it seems. Once the weather heats up, so does Aram, and usually Soriano(although hes a little ahead of that schedule now).

He has hit more than 35 HRs twice in 4 full seasons as a Cub. That doesn't include him hitting 31 in '05 while missing almost 30 games. Nor does that include his 15.5 HR/AB (39 over 600 ABs) after he became a Cub in '03. He clearly has 35-40 HR power. I wouldn't say there is much concern yet as he was hit on the wrist, but nothing was broken or damaged to zap his power.

He's consistently been the one that seems to be most effected negatively by the cooler weather, so his slow start power-wise happening during an extended chilly spring seems about right.

His three year splits show that his post-ASB SLG is 80 points higher than his pre-ASB. Also, his best months are June/July/August, followed by September. April/May show his OPS at .816 and .833, respectively. The rest of the months vary between .928 and 1.026.

His newfound patience (.151 BB/PA is amazing) will allow him possibly to have his best year ever when all is said and done. When he starts hitting HRs in his typical every 16 or so ABs, he may flirt with a 1.000 OPS. Almost 2 months in, I don't think his patience is a fluke, where it has been shown his lack of power may be.

I honestly think its the wrist. But maybe I'm just conditioned to fear all wrist injuries after witnessing what happened to Lee. Rammy will still be good for at least 30 HRs and probably 100 RBIs in this offense.

We've seen the DLee surge and the Soriano surge. We are still waiting for one of ARam's patented hot spells.

If Ramirez hits 30 HRs this year, then his wrist is fine.

If Ramirez is being more patient and working on that and doing so when it's early in the season (if this is a time he struggles), then I'm pretty impressed. If he can bring this later in the season when he is hitting better, wow...he'll have a nice year. That being said, I hope it's not because of the wrist injury and he's just not swinging as much due to discomfort.

Yeah, I am thinking that since there was no fracture or anything, its just his wrist being swollen and zapping him of his power temporarily. In a couple weeks, if not sooner he will be fine and ready to pound the ball again.

Aramis has always been a streaky hitter. When he hits homers, he usually hits them in bunches, then he won't hit any for awhile until his next streak. As noted earlier, he usually doesn't have hot streaks early in the season.

The above-normal patience for Rammy was there before he got hit on the wrist.

Cool and groovy. Let's hope he keeps that part of his game up and I'm curious how much Lou/Perry have helped in this.

For tonight, that HR was to LF in Houston, but he crushed it, it wasn't a lazy fly.

I laughed at my TV screen when Thorne said he "looped it to LF".

yeah, i knew that was long gone when it came off the bat.

No kidding. That would have been gone in Wrigley.

That would have been gone in Rhode Island.

Anyone here think Ramirez is smaller that when he first came to the Cubs? He also seems to be behind fastballs, at least more than he used to be.

He looks like an athlete now --- no pudginess like he had before.
