I don't say it often, but that was a great strategy by Lou to use Soriano first, since Arizona was likely walking whoever it was in that spot anyway.

He shoulda used Cedeno, who's less of a threat than Soriano, despite the early season numbers. But still enough of a threat that AZ had to walk him. Not much of a deal though, as Soriano had to come in anyway.

Is there any reason Lou likes Marquis as a pinch runner so much?

 

Because if he gets hurt, no big loss.

Well, usually teams avoid PR with a pitcher because they don't want him to get injured so he can continue to pitch. I'm not sure that's what the Cubs see in Marquis, however.
