This was the 3rd three game series the Cubs have swept out of the 4 that Zambrano has NOT pitched in.

I'm confused. The Cubs have only had 3 three game series sweeps (vs. Pit, @ Pit, vs. Ari) to my knowledge...

Yes, and all three were series in which Zambrano did not pitch. There was only one other series in which that happened (@Stl I think). So, the Cubs have swept 3 of the 4 three-game series in which Zambrano didn't pitch (The Mets sweep was a 2-gamer in which Z did pitch).

Ah, I gotcha. That makes sense now.

Hes lost weight, and gained more velocity on his fastball than he had in years past. Hes gotten better with age, and learned how to pitch. Hes been horrible in the majors doing a job hes never done before.

That sounds a lot more like excuse-making for lack of performance than evidence.

Or it's a logical reason.

It's a logical reason for a pitcher whose performance projected to positive major-league numbers before the changes. But they didn't. He's a good prospect and a major-leaguer, but a 93-MPH fastball doesn't change that the majors and minors have both treated him like a mediocre pitcher on a pretty consistent basis.

wait this is sean gallagher we're talking about? mediocre in the minor leagues? i don't get it.

A 2.77 career ERA is mediocre, dude.

Gallagher just has to get better command of the breaking ball, obviously there were plenty of swings and misses given the high Ks, but they were sitting on the FB, and they were able to hit it.

81% of his FBs were strikes while only 39% of the breaking stuff were strikes. He has to do a better job of pitching when behind in the count, only 20% that were up 2-0, 2-1, 3-0 ended up as outs.

Depending on age and level, it can often point to being a mediocre major-leaguer at the present.

Sean's 22, he was never old for his level. He was pretty much always young.

That's good for projecting him into the future, but it's meaningless for saying how good he is right now.

Sean Gallagher, right now, at the age of 22 is a mediocre major-league pitcher and his minor-league numbers support that conclusion.

The fact that he is already a mediocre major-leaguer at 22 is a tremendous accomplishment and bodes well for his future career. But he's still mediocre right now. That's all I'm sayin'.
