Of course, lost in all this will be that Sean Gallagher's day wasn't all that good.

It wasn't all that bad all things considered.

4.1 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K. Yes, it was pretty bad. If this was a Marquis game, people would be roasting him.

Or, to use fangraph, he lowered the Cubs' chances of winning by 14.4% points.

Lets just ignore he pitched 3 days ago, or that hes only pitched 4 innings in a week. He was cruising untill the 5th inning, and honestly shouldnt be a surprise he started missing with his pitches.

Excuses can be made for anyone. Performance counts.

Are you related to him? Is it so hard to say that a pitcher had a bad day? That a good minor-league pitcher projects to a mediocre (not bad, just mediocre) major-leaguer?

I'll take it as a surprise spot start in the kid's first big league start who hasn't thrown many innings the past 2 weeks.

This is beginning to look suspiciously like Chad Fox's last major league outing prior to this year.

He's injury-prone. He only has so many bullets in him. He can't do extended outings. This is really, really dumb.

i think his point is that projection for gallagher isn't nearly as optimistic as most people on this board think he will be - which is a perfectly valid point. i don't know that he'll be any better than lieber or even marquis this season.

And I should specify that I mean projects *right now* to be a mediocre major-leaguer. At his age, that's an accomplishment.

I'm a Lou supporter. I don't criticize him nearly as much as a lot of people here do, but walking Young to pitch to Jackson and load the bases was Dusty-esque in its stupidity.
